Newcastle (A) | Wed 27th Sept | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

He looks ok for England because of Southgates safety 1st football. He is not sharp enough for us last night he played 2 really good passes instead of moving forward stood there admiring the pass.He does not affect the game in any way.Should be at Everton,Wolves,Palace etc.No way he starts or gets on at Arsenal. His next start will be for England then Fa cup.
Maybe he will be gone by the time the cup starts?

Is participation compulsory? No point wasting time and money if were not taking it seriously.
Many teams didn't enter for the first few years of the competition and it only really took off when the final moved to Wembley (1967?) and when the winners were given a European place (1968 or 69?).

I did. It was a good post.

This isn't Twitter.
I read it and was a good post however, it ignores the obvious.

The League Cup is a competition we can't accommodate this season with the ridiculous scheduling of it and the other competitions.

Footy calendar is now fucked and last seasons CL win elevated the Club more than 6 League Cup wins combined.

The League Cup is now something to go at when you have no chance of winning anything else.

It's days must be numbered for Euro competing PL teams, there is no room for it as the scheduling stands.

Best 11 out last night would have been half arsed as well.

Mission accomplished: played well, no injuries, run out for some players, experience for younger players, better team overall even rival manager admitted they "probably didn't deserve the win. Probably out last game in the competition which is past its self-by date, at least for the senior team

Apparently Newcastle play utd at ot in the next round. If only we would have won tonight, I’d have just loved a game there.
That confirmed to me that the result was good for us. It’s not an important competition but it’s easy to get sucked in (especially for teams that haven’t won a trophy in a while - or ever) and being ball 16 we’d have ended up having to take it seriously.

Bit disappointed to to out so early but to be quite honest 5 or so games less is probably a godsend.

Newcastle just wanted it more than us that second half and got the rub of the green, I think pep leaving Haaland on the bench clearly shows our priorities.

No idea what the ref was up to, second game in a row we've had someone who let things get out of hand in an otherwise non nasty encounter. His refusal to pull up players for fouls early on let things get heated. Particular should out to his insane logic of booking a Newcastle player for kicking the ball away in the second half, after letting four of them get away with it in the first. I do think Phillips was lucky with that challenge though, with var you could just see them focusing on the contact rather than the context and showing red.
It would not be 5 games less. Just one involving any player near the first team at the swamp. After we had beaten the scum the round following would be played when we are abroad in the Club World Cup thingy. The commentators last night forgot to mention this. Probably because they had done cock all pre- game homework or they were too busy scoring points pointing out how disappointed Pep would be at going out and lauding the Barcodes for their top scalp against the cheating blues.
Just wait for the headline again ‘Manyoo are one of a handful of clubs who can still do the quadruple.’ And remember they have a ‘monopoly’ on the Lge/Milk/Carebo Cup.
I have woken up very relaxed about the whole thing! Let the baldies fight over the comb.
