Newcastle (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

That was a big result that yesterday. On paper it was tricky and if we'd have lost it and gone 8 points behind it would've been a real blow and made things a lot trickier.

The way Arsenal are playing at the moment is looking like they are absolutely the "real deal" and we have to be at our best now to stop them. Winning games like they did yesterday is the hallmark of champions and the kind of thing we did. When I've seen them play this season they've been very good so we could do with a nice long winning streak. Once we find that form, no one can challenge us.

Anyway, great to see Foden back to his best. His movement, touches and of course opening goal were world class and if he can keep this up it would be like signing a £150m player - he was exceptional. I hope he's sorted his demons out and gets back to being one of our key players.

Special mention as well to Grealish who was superb yesterday. He is so cool on the ball and wins so many free kicks for us but I'd really like to see him in the middle so he can run with the ball more and influence the game. I also thought Akanji did well on the whole, keeping Wilson quiet and not reacting when Wilson was trying to play rugby.

Great result that and I just hope we can get some momentum now for a long winning streak!

COME ON CITY!

I don't rate him and simply discussing his attributes on here.

It was an excellent win against a good team, but if we want to get back to our known levels, then we can't afford passengers, and I have also included Kev in that appraisal.

Kev has plenty of credit in the bank, but Akanji is a huge weak link and better attacks than Newcastle yesterday would have made us pay, certainly in Champions League, as Pep always stresses those margins.
It’s no coincidence that we’ve conceded so many goals and the only real defensive changes this season are Akanji and Lewis and Lewis has performed well.

If he's a seven out of ten, then ten doesn't count for much these days?

He's so poor. Gets dragged out, gets outjumped, never senses danger.

I thought in his first couple games, certainly at Sevilla, he looked very assured, but he's a headless chicken when put under any type of pressure or movement.

He was criminal for the Rashford goal the other week and even the players were thinking what the fuck in the win against Villa, when he failed to react to their goal.

Hardwood Bellis should not be loaned out again at the expense of Akanji remaining.
Akanji is a big step down from the other 4 centre backs. On the assumption that Ake holds down the left back slot We’ve got to get Laporte or Stones alongside Dias for the rest of the season.

Was that when Rosler gave his boots to someone in the crowd, I was at them both as well, it was the 5-0 away to Charlton on a Boxing Day that killed me, I expected to get trounced at Anfield, not of Jim bloody Melrose
It was

Look again, at least 5 kicks went way into touch from half a press
He gave 3 fookin hospital passes in the 1st 15 minutes & Absalutely shanked a right foot with no pressure on him
He simply has 1 gear which is so laid back he might as well be in an Amsterdam ganja caffee
If his feet ain't working then his game is fucked
Has to pick it up, nothing more to say
Pick it up? That would be an indirect free-kick.

Those final corners were spectacular! Newcastle's players were getting mad, I couldn't stop laughing!

thought eddie was pissed he was that bad yesterday
kev is off more than on these days and that's the conundrum pep has going forward
spot on sub though apart from the goal bernie gives us better ball retention than kev these days
" bernie gives us better ball retention than kev these days"

Always has done, KDB at his peaked always took huge chances with his passing that's what made him so special but those incredible passes often ended up in the opposition hands.

KDB wasn’t his best but I’d rather see them killer passes again as opposed to Side to side football
