Newcastle (H) post match thread

Another clean sheet is great, we should have scored 4 minimum but thats a recurring theme, not putting away chances. Cancelo was motm, Gundogan had a very good First half, the defence was solid, but something is still a little bit off in attack, hopefully it clicks soon from the attacking point of view, we can't expect to keep clean sheets against the better teams, and nick One Nils.

A popular opinion from rival fans over the past few seasons, has been that City need to be at their absolute best(full intensity) or they drop points. This is the kind of performance that turns that theory on it's head. Coupled with the clean sheet, defensive solidity, overall control of the game, I'm taking this as a positive. All teams need that knack of grinding out results, as others have said, the result never looked in doubt. I'm getting less concerned about us sitting on a 1-0 lead too, even despite the WBA game because the team is becoming more comfortable doing it.

I thought our 60 million man played well as did our 40.2 million one. Not so sure about our 55 million one but 30 million for the other guy was well worth it. A little unsure on our manager, not knocking his tactics but those clothes weren't worth what he paid for them.

Oh and can anyone tell me how much we paid for Bernado as for some reason Darke failed to mention it.

Very well played game, the passing was soo much better at times tonight then it has been recently. Still the finishing is worrisome but aguero looked to bring some life up front. Cancelo was unreal tonight

good win in the circumstances. Have to get used to this seasons city. Solid and professional, if not a little boring.
good signs from aguero, his movement was great and unlucky not to bag one.
didntnkill ourselves with another game in 2 days.
Liked 3 at the back, cancelo was given room to attack and was excellent.

Does anyone else think Kevin is playing a little too far foward? He seems to be playing with his back to goal, rather than having the game in front of him.

For all his quality, he is never going to fulfill the David role, where he can retain the ball in tight spaces and open up the play on the half turn.

Too many times tonight, he lost the ball in and around the box, with his back to goal. When he came a little deeper, he pulled off some quality through balls.

It was just a little observation really.
I noticed that too.

I'm hopeful Pep's seen some positive signs in training and all his struggles in this sense are all part of the adaptation process for De Bruyne in this role. If it pays off De Bruyne is going to find a new level in 6-12 months time (if we can be patient).
