Newcastle (H) post match thread

Solid performance and - dare I say it - it looks like we've stopped conceding goals to teams like this and giving them the chance to defend it all game.

We could've got away with not having a keeper tonight, that's how dominant we were. Cancelo was MOTM for me but Stones and Dias look like rocks. Whatever we've done with Stones, give some to KdB. Stones is looking like a £75m signing now - cool on the ball, creative with the ball, great tackling and great in the air. It's like we've signed Koulibaly AND Dias at the moment the way he is playing! Shame he didn't score tonight, but wow what a turnaround he's had this year and he's definitely showing us what we've been missing.

Stones and Dias clearly enjoy playing with each other and Ake shows he's a far better left back than the others we have. For all the criticism of Pep, and I did criticise him for not sorting the defence out, he's made our defence the best in the league and we really look absolutely solid. Does anyone think we miss Laporte the way we're playing!?

Overall, just what we needed and great to see performances from Stones, Gundogan and Cancelo and hopefully if they can continue to play like this, we're going to really improve. Newcastle came to defend, the weather was attrocious and we kept a clean sheet. Great stuff!

I think we're going to cause a lot of teams like Newcastle a real head-scratcher. If they know our defence is solid, is it worth booting the ball forward and losing it? If they sit back, they are in a pressure-cooker for 90 minutes and aren't good enough to keep us out. I don't think Newcastle were good tonight, but I don't really see what else - realistically - they could do.

Good boxing day win, time to sink a few! Merry Christmas all!

I feel the same but obviously hope I’m wrong. I just don’t see us lifting the trophy, not right now anyways, given how our competitors are playing. United seem to be able to score a few goals every game while having a solid defence, and Liverpool look as strong as last season even without Van Dijk which I thought would be impossible. They have a way of picking up 3p no matter how fucking bad they played. We don’t have that right now.

But as we know, defence is what wins you the titles and in that department we look solid.
United solid defence? They've conceded 23 goals only Sheff Utd, WBA, Leeds and Palace have conceded more, that's not a solid defence mate.

A popular opinion from rival fans over the past few seasons, has been that City need to be at their absolute best(full intensity) or they drop points. This is the kind of performance that turns that theory on it's head. Coupled with the clean sheet, defensive solidity, overall control of the game, I'm taking this as a positive. All teams need that knack of grinding out results, as others have said, the result never looked in doubt. I'm getting less concerned about us sitting on a 1-0 lead too, even despite the WBA game because the team is becoming more comfortable doing it.
Yep.As I said in a previous post,I wouldn't mind winning every game 1-0
