Not a penalty for me. VAR didn't overturn because it wasn't a clear and obvious error. Generally speaking, when the ref awards a penalty, he/she has to consider how close they are to the goal, how many defenders are there, direction of the play and, most importantly, the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball. In any of those respects, Fraser wouldn't get the nod. Yes, Ederson took him out. But Fraser wasn't getting the ball, Cancelo had control. No penalty in my opinion.

What is really absurd is the Liverpool boards raging that had the penalty been given - it would have changed the match. Eh - no. It wouldn't have.

Great result and more goals to get our goal difference back level. Some going to make up the gap in that that we have in the last 6 days!

Performance wasn't great. Lacked control and that's no real shock as Gundogan and Grealish, two of our best ball retainers were not on the pitch. A lot of our players radars were faulty and those crossfields just weren't quite there.

On to Leicester hopefully!

Looked on one of the Newcastle forums and they won't give Cancelo any credit for his wonder strike. One even called him an attacker, others saying their defenders made it easy for him. They failed to see he's a full back scoring a goal like that, bitterness shows no end of stopping towards us no matter who we play

To be fair I never give credit to anyone who scores against us either, I just feel incredible anger. Unless we win and render it irrelevant, then I’m more relaxed.

Agree on that but also we had an earlier penalty claim turned down in that game

I know footballers can come across as a bit thick, but Ryan Fraser has just made me piss me sides on motd (quote) “If you take the goals away we where in the game”

brilliant without being brilliant, it's an avalanche gathering pace.

Cancelo was great, he's a strange almost positionless footballer, providing the goods.

Penalty for me, Ederson's slide out. But i dont think many of us care.

I spent those sensitive teenage years growing up in Northumberland where my life was made a fucking misery by the mainly Newcastle supporting kids. After the dips and rags, schooling the barcodes has always given me the most pleasure.

Just watching the motd2 highlights. At the time for the first goal I thought how well Cancelo had done to get the cross in for our first goal, but watching again I hadn’t spotted how fucking marvellous his run was to get into that position. What a player.

I also hadn’t noticed how even the first half was until I saw the bbc highlights!

Also are we the only team whose fans Sly and BT never show celebrating at away matches? Is it a genuine attempt to make out that we don’t exist, that we’re a foreign club? Does this happen to any other clubs?
