Walker was terrible today, and Rodders had a stinker too. Phil seems to be in a lull but we showed spirit and some skill as well. Never want to see that formation against a team with pace out wide again. Points a point though
 
Very big come back and could have won the game and that speaks volumes,
the AKE injury set us back, we looked all over the place at times at the back, so with the full back tucking in Saint-Maximin was running riot and we had to hold on at times. No complaints, a well-earned point and Newcastle will beat most teams at home this season.
 
Can't get my head round that first half. Walker and Rodri in particular kept backing off and allowing Newcastle to carry the ball 30 or 40 yards unchallenged and then failed to stop the crosses.

Did well to salvage a point in the end. Trippier's knee high foul reminded of that wild hack at Aguero at Palace a few years back. That didn't get a red either, unsurprisingly.
 
One of life's greatest mysterious along with the Bermuda triangle and the lochness monster is Pep advocating for 5 subs only to use 0 on a regular basis.

Thankfully we're not in a league race with those City sides. Ha! Do we have enough to win the league? Defo, I agree, and I think that's all that matters really. We are defo one or two players short depth wise, but that point aside, in terms of quality of the players we currently have I think it looks a bit weaker because simply just don't know enough about some of these players yet. It's an increasingly young-ish squad with lots of new faces. We might be sat here in a year from now thinking Alvarez, Phillips, Gomez and Palmer are all brilliant and in hindsight the squad might be stronger than it feels at this moment.

But you're right that right now we don't know that and the squad does *feel* weaker for plenty of us. We just can't say that it's strong because we don't have the answers yet...but there's a good chance we're playing the longer game here. In fact, we know we are. When you refresh a squad and bring in young players, you are sacrificing a bit of experience and that's just how it is. Calculated risk and all that, probably a necessary one too, cos you want these young players being exposed to Pep as much as possible if he does decide to go. I wish we'd kept the ones who have gone, but that's life.

Very noteable that we dont have as mcuh control of the midfield even int he first two games ...Pep is trying to use the fullbacks tucking in to counter act it BUT against teams with fast wide men and a really hard press froma. midfield that could be dangerous. Walker as good as he is isnt technically gifted enough when caught by a press inmidfield, Cancello wilts at times under pressure and Gundo again as good as he is struggles and always has done in that situation...

I think today after half time made gundo and rodri and KDB (to a lesser extent) get closer to rodri which saw us gain control.

How is Phil in a lull? Great against Hammers, goal and assist in 45 mins against Bournemouth.
