Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Watching it back, to be honest, it’s nothing more than just a little bit of a kick on the side of the leg, VAR was right to ask the ref to check it and the ref was right to amend his original decision.

We don’t always have to look for a big conspiracy against us or that some giant mistake has been made. It seems like every time we drop points it’s the referee’s, linesmen, VAR, the Premier League or UEFA’s fault.
With you on this

Yes Trppier left the ground but he also had the mindset to pull his challenge

Excellent entertainment.

Newcastle made it uncomfortable for a lot of the game with their quick, aggressive, front-foot defending.

We did give psossession away a bit too much but we still had far more of the ball. They were a threat on the counter but we should have defended better at times and certainly on their goals. The third was a result of Stones being over anxious of the threat from St Maximin and diving in.

Great character, again to come back from 2 down. Unfortunately Pope kept them in it throughout.

Thought Trippier should have been sent off, that challenge was knee high, and they didn't half foul our top players.

Geordie's whistling for the end tells its own tale.

Bernie has to stay, MotM for us.
Agree with a lot of that apart from Silva. Felt he was wasted out wide today

Those words aren’t in the laws of the game.

I thought it was a red on first viewing but the replays from the reverse angle showed it wasn’t as high speed as it looked at first, Trippier wasn’t seeming in from miles away, he’d only taken 2 or 3 steps from standing still and the contact was much more glancing.

Seeing the reaction on social media no neutrals think it was a red card.

Did well to get a point from 1-3 down and could and should have possibly gone on to win it. They were gassed for the last 20 and with better finishing we could have grabbed all the points. First half saw us on the back foot after we'd gone ahead and they had the pace and skill that caused us lots of problems. Walker and Stones on the right side looked in trouble most of the first half. In fact the whole defence was all at sea first half.
I said before West Ham that this is a big season for Foden to show he can make the step up to the next level and it's clear his decision making is still not at the required level. He's still primarily thinking about his own stats rather than passing to a better placed team mate.
Still can't believe Trippier wasn't sent off. Not enough evidence to overturn the ref's decision.
Let's hope Pep realises that Walker can't play as an inverted full back - he was a disaster today and ASM gave him the runaround all afternoon.
Entertaining game for the neutral and City showed their character to fight back and get a good away point.

Absolutely. Kevs been kicked harder by his dog than that tackle today.

I think this iteration of the side might be the weakest since Pep built the 2017/18 side. The balance doesn’t feel good and we have no depth at all. The importance of the players that have left has been seriously undervalued by the fans IMO.

I still expect we’ll win the league because Liverpool don’t look up to it, but currently this side doesn’t get close to 17/18, 18/19 or 20/21 for me.
I have no problem losing Sterling and Jesus. They were shit the past two seasons compared to our level.

Its losing Zinchenko that now looks brain dead.

there is now zero pressure on walker and cancelo to keep their standards high.
