Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

I'd have given the red card but I am 100% biased. Be interesting to hear any explanation, it was a dangerous challenge for sure.

I will add, my gut feeling is it wouldn't have changed much, probably still a draw based on the way we were playing.

I'm not convinced that was an attempt at a bad foul - woth intent to injure. His foot stays down when it gets close which says to media's always a trip attempt.

But agree about the others.
De Bruyne is at full pelt and the player is only out to hit the man, not the ball. He can have no knowledge of the impact that will befall the tackled player when they land and it should be a straight red, irrespective of the team.

-Lost two points - bad
-Rescued a point - from that atrocious first half and very poor performance with two goals down, very good
-Dreadful in the first half - Rodri never worse in the City shirt, Pep surprisingly persisting with one of our FBs in the middle when they were doubling up on both wings
-Better in the second half - mostly because Rodri somehow regained his composure and Gundogan and both Bernardo and Foden playing slightly deeper, we were better at keeping the ball and preventing turnovers
-Haaland is blessing and a bit of curse to have on the pitch at the same time, we definitely lose fluidity and interchanges when attacking the packed defence, but then we know he'll score even from a half-chance
-Bernardo better in the second half but totally wrong position for him so wide

Happy with a draw in the end because for large parts we were woeful.

Pep really needs to think about the inverted full backs because Walker isn’t a footballer. He is a good defender with great recovery pace. I’m not having him moving into midfield. If Pep was going to do this, he should have told Zin that he would be 1st choice LB this season and moved Cancelo over to RB.

Stones should never have started and was fucking terrible. I don’t know why Pep decided today was the day to give him a start when we were playing a side who clearly had weapons to hurt us.

The midfield trio of Rodri, KDB and Gundo has to have the ball. Without the ball it’s Rodri on his own. Gundo was invisible after scoring.

Thought Haaland showed real glimpses of what he can do today. Another week he grabs a hat-trick.
I felt sorry for Ake going off initially, now I'm worried cause stones was mince

Great game & happy with the point considering.
spoilt by the SKY narrative.
Fuck ok Hinchcliffe, hated that cnut ever since he threw Pep & Bernado under the bus live on sky

Showed a lot of class to turn that round, think we got bullied a bit at the back, and their keeper played a blinder.
Champions don't lose those kind of games and we didn't, haalands best 45mins so far, glimpses of what is to come when he gets up to full pelt, and as a team once we get fitter will improve a lot.
On a side note, you just knew when our third went in on 63 mins? They would waste time right until the end, happens to often, must have had about 10 maybe 15 at the most minutes played after that, the rest was long treatments for players who are not injured and extended substitutions which the ref is supposed to add time on for.
Fair play to the skunks though they won't lose many up there if they play like that
I have been calling them the barcodes for years but all that changes from now.
They are now the skunks.

Woeful? Newcastle gave a superb account of themselves. Sometimes we have to acknowledge the opposition's quality, and the geordies were top quality, especially in the first half.
Watch them melt at Liverpool in a couple of weeks. Always the same. Last season when spuds beat us they went on a terrible run.

Sloppy sloppy sloppy

Passing was off all day.

Letting Newcastle run at us was a disaster.

Defence was all over the place. Midfield left Rodri on his own.

Positives:

Showed a lot of character to get back into the game. Haaland on the score sheet again.

Annoying:

That **** Hinch & Pep refusing to sub when players looked knackered.

Overall, early season form. Played a good Newcastle who will get points of alot of the top teams.

Improvements needed.
Great summary.

We started the game well I thought and probably should've had another. Newcastle got encouragement from Almiron's chance. ASM realised he could get at an out of sorts Walker and he caused him and our backline allsorta of problems. Playing 2 CBs and no cover against their front players was suicidal and the problems were alot of our own doing. Some really sloppy passing and we just looked off the pace against a team that pressed us and had a go at us.

From the 15th minute until we scored our 2nd I thought we were dreadful tbh. But the spirit and determination to come back as pleasing. Its a tough place to go and I suspect our rivals will struggle at Newcastle aswell.

Take the point and move on to next week. There's alot of improving to do.

Trippier shouldn't of been on the pitch to make that last block. Can't fault Newcastle's effort but they will fade when it comes to the business end of the season. As for us another character building exercise
Without sounding like the Liverpool Echo, it's good for the team to get a kick up the backside now and again to keep them on their toes.

It's football...

Some you win.
Some you lose.
Some you draw.

This one we drew.

The posters who think they would have done better than Pep, had they been in charge, rate their knowledge of football and its intricacies too highly.
