Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Thought there was loads to like yesterday, not least how hungry Pep, the team and the crowd are to not give up all those trophies without a fight.

The fact Kova is already being spoken about in the same breath of Gundo is a very positive sign, he's a different player but he has a bit more forward drive to him than Gundo did and that driving pass to Foden before Foden lays it off to one of our strikers could be a move we'll get used to if we have a good season.

Bernie to come back, Kev finally coming back fully rested in the new year, and one or two more signings in and we have a squad to challenge.

Nice to put Newcastle back in their box. I thought it was a real schooling tbh.

On a stadium/atmosphere point, that bar they put in at the back of the SS1 has done wonders. It's like a nightclub in there pre-game, if the football wasn't so good I'd stand in there getting pissed and listening and singing to tunes all night. It's a nice pre-match ritual.

And they've swapped the cheese pie from vegan to vegetarian. Happy days.

And last but not least, all three new kits look banging in person. A clean sweep, can't remember the last time we had that.

Genuinely think Erling might be the worst controller of a football we've had post takeover.

i don't understand erling's positioning. is he trying to make himself as hard to find as possible? Every time there's a chance for a cross he's nowhere near a good position

Fuck me grealish is shit

(Erling’s) Body language has been poor on top of it.

just know were going to fuck up

Haaland like bambi on ice sometimes. difficult i suppose

Haaland has been shocking, need him to hold it up

Jack greilish has offered Jack shit, I'd put Palmer on.. What the bloody hell is Haaland up to? Just kept running into the net
Match day thread wankers .

Fordyboy?

I was in the North Stand last night and even we were singing!!!
It was all round the ground, which was great to hear.
Usually for the most part it’s coming just from the south stand.
The atmosphere did tail off in the last 15 minutes, which I think was down to the nervousness of the 1-0 score line.

I’ll hazard a guess that’s one of the so called blues (note no capital letter) on rag cafe.

Thought Foden,Kovacic, Walker and Ederson were unbelievable yesterday especially the first three.

The tactic of pushing Walker to hug the sideline high to drag Dan Burn out so then Foden can have the space in between the CB and Burn was incredible. Kovacic pass to Foden for the goal was perfect and showed his class throughout against a difficult midfield.

Haaland just didn’t have his shooting boots on which can happen he could’ve had at least 2 that game. Gvaridol is going to be amazing for us his quality at his age is frightening really he dealt with that right side really well and when he drifted centrally to cover Akanji he was great. I want to see Ake switched with Akanji so Gvaridol can be in those positions in the midfield.

Akanji is a weird one because he has exceeded everyone’s expectations but I don’t think it’s wrong for fans to voice what is apparently true, which is that he’s probably our worst defender, and just because he is that doesn’t mean he’s a bad defender. He can play on the full back positions really well but centrally he’s bad in the air for example Brentford at home and Everton at home aswell. He’s always reliable and available for games and that is a massive positive for a defence that always has a injury but our strongest line is Walker- Stones- Dias- Gvaridol when everyone is fit.

i'm gonna guess at our very own matchday thread?

Absolutely fuck all on the right hand side, walker doing 2 jobs , and Newcastle fans win the day
One the train home and the only good thing was the result. Terrible welcome home by the fans for the treble winners
Nonsense, the City fans were excellent last night.IMG_0681.jpeg

I like the fact we took the shortest route to goal on more than a few occasions (maybe the Haaland effect) Eddie into the final 3rd at least half a dozen times. Dias to Kova to Phil to Haaland then a shot, sounds a lot of passes, but that’s far fewer than shifting it from one side to the other, recycling it, then doing the same. A lot of that is down to the Kova-Foden link, no doubt teams will look to nullify that but we’ll just go wide, which is why a new (direct) RW is needed
