Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Haha. Marnouch started awfully. Had about 5 awful touches and then suddenly did a U-turn
I’ve had one of those days, I’d literally just turned to my son and mates 30 seconds earlier and said it’ll fall into place soon for Omar, lo and behold he bags and goes on from there. You could see his confidence lift, same with Khusanov once he’d got a few challenges and easy balls in place. Great day.

Really good performance today and the most enjoyable game for a while.
The whole team performed well and aside from one or two moments Newcastle were contained. Funny that all the pre match paper talk was Haaland v Isak but it was Marmoush who stole the headlines. All three of the new starters gave a strong account of themselves.
The subs were good today and there was no discernible drop in performance when they came on. Pleased that McAtee got on the score sheet again.

Really enjoyed that. Marmoush and Savinho were the picks up top. Stones was immense. Khusanov looks up for it. And I thought Nico gave everyone else a bit of confidence because he was fucking tremendous on and off the ball.

Thank you, you beautiful blue bastards!

Holy holding midfielder Batman! Amazing what a difference it makes having a guy quietly shutting doors, and putting out fires in front of the back 4.

Gonzalez in that role, playing like he did today changes our entire look at both ends of the field. Gundogan was freed by it and played better - the back 4 looked far stronger with regular protection in front of it, and as a unit we just looked so more cohesive.

Thought Savinho and Marmoush were brilliant - especially first half - and Khusanov looked far more solid and confident now he's had some time in our system, and he had Nico there playing the 6 in front of him. They didn't lay a glove on us all day - good hold midfielders don't do the flashy stuff and normally you barely notice them. The fact Newcastle were largely nullified today is a testament to Gonzalez and how his presence influenced the game.

Such a pleasing and important result - best I've seen us play in ages. Suddenly top 4 and the FA Cup come really into focus - just about every result went our way this weekend too.

Yeah mate, throw Kev, Bernie, Kova back in against Madrid and prioritise Liverpool now. If we get a sniff against Madrid then we can have plenty of ammo on the bench.
Surely you’re joking? We can’t just give up when a goal behind. It’s by far the bigger game. We can’t afford a few slip ups in the league and still get top 5.

Agree with every word. Today we controlled every aspect of the game for the full game. Gonzalez imposed himself from KO always available always instructing others. Stones when fit is the best CB in world. Them two were a solid base from which everything else flowed. Savio and Marmoush are quick and aggressive. That team stays fit and we could have a great end to season. Imagine catching arsenal, league gone but those bottle jobs are only 9 clear.

There was a bit at around 78 mins where he put in the tackle of the season to stop a counter.

He made all the difference today and looked every bit as good as the times I’d watched him for Porto.

So we are currently at just 48 pages after a convincing 4-0 win against Newcastle, Arguably our best performance of the season.

Comes to show how many Rags, Dippers and Wind Up Merchants come on here after a defeat, I'm convinced that if we were beaten today we would be at 148 pages and not just the 48.

Nice to read good posts from genuine Blues after a game and get their views, Hopefully the rest stay the fuck away.

Fair play lads.
