Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought Nico G was excellent, just what we've missed.
Played well with Gundo and Phil, some good flowing movement throughout the team today. Big improvement which tbh before the game I was NOT expecting.

Can Pep just throw caution to the wind and play these same guys, but swop Gundo for McAtee on Wednesday. Absolutely feck all to lose.

Excellent performance today. New signings all look like they're settling in. Made up for Marmoush. Will really help his confidence to get goals. He definitely gives us something different. Nico looks like he can do a very effective job at DM in the absence of Rodri.
Imagine Nico and Rodri together, push Rod up a bit higher to give some creativity when Kevs moved on and I'd be happy with that.

Easy to say when you win but I thought the officials were good. I don't remember much about them so they must have been.

We were a TEAM today. Gundo had not lost his skills, just needed the right formation, the Viking never stopped making space for others, dragging their defence all over the place, Nico's anticipation and knowing the best use of the ball was top class, something we've lacked without Rodri, all of the new lads were better than expected, Bring on the entitled cry-babies, it's a free hit,

Game was sold out mate

Might have been on paper but quite a few empty seats visible on the box. I couldn't go so I tried selling my ticket on the exchange. It didn't sell, which should show the club we haven't reached the dizzy heights yet of any spare tickets getting snapped up

Just got back. Wow, where did that come from. First of all, I’m so pleased for Pep that we got this result, as he looks like he’s been through it, but he enjoyed today. Lots of really good performances. Take a bow John Stones. What a fantastic performance, he covered up a few mistakes from the others in defence at times, and was everywhere. We are just so much better with him in the side. I liked Khusanov from his debut and think we have a really really good player there. Has to be fully integrated this season so he’s ready to go next season. Grew in confidence and played between the lines. As others have said that performance doesn’t necessarily happen without Nico. He was always telling players to calm things down, and already willing to tell players if they are not in the right position. Very disciplined given his role at Porto. Marmoush looks a player and could have had a couple more goals if he had been found on a couple of runs. Savio just frightens defenders with his pace and skill. When he gets the ball it’s a bit like the expectation we had of Sane. Probably man of the match. Haaland was excellent. Totally unselfish and was certainly a team player today. Full credit to Lewis, Gundo and Eddie after midweek, all played well. Nice to see James get a goal. Felt sorry for Reiss but his time will come. Need to integrate him this season where possible. Phil had a decent game but still think he’s playing within himself. We don’t know if the new players are Viana signings but if they are things look good for the Sumner. The aggression from kick off was there to see, and the short passing. We have some hungry new players now who have not won anything here. Hopefully with more to come in the summer. This combined with a few older heads who are still hungry to win trophies and we are ready to go again.

New players, new tactics, new tempo. This team could be something amazing in two years time. We could have five world class players all at once.
Haaland, Marmoush, Gonzales, Savinho, Khusanov, Gvardiol are all potentially very top players.
Rods and Ruben as the old guys and add Foden, Bah, Perrone, Bobb, Echeverri, Reis, O'Rielly, James maybe and any of the under 18's that can make it and I'm up for it.

Best performance of the season, I finally recognise this club again
Changes of Akanji -> Khusanov, Bernardo -> Nico, Grealish -> Marmoush, I don't think it's any coincidence

Best performance of the season by a mile!

Nico and Khusanov were brilliant.

MOTM obviously Marmoush but shout out to Stones. God what a rolls Royce of a player he is.
Rolls Royce don't keep breaking down. If only he was available for more 90 minutes throughout the season.
What's impressed me most today is every player had a good game. Several was excellent.got to admit I didn't know much about Nico but he showed excellent leadership skills today and made a fantastic home debut. CTID

The other thing I noticed about Nico was his leadership. In his first real outing for City, he was very vocal in telling players around him where to position themselves & kept geeing up his team mates & the crowd.

We seemed so much more assured with him at No 6 with the old Dog beside him. Aside from a couple of wayward passes, this was an excellent display from Speedy.
I've been informed that at every level of national football he's been the Captain and it showed today.
