Newcastle's owners went down to speak to the players after the loss, trying to motivate them for a league title fight.

They've probably realised that they're going to need 5 or 6 of them to show up in the 2nd half of the season or they're going down. Perhaps the players knowing they're out the door soon isn't helping.

Maybe the transfer market hasn't been as easy as they expected either?
Their most important game of the season is in 6 days and they've only signed 1 player. They should have had 3 or 4 in ready for Watford.

First worrying signs from Eddie Howe too, who said before the game that they were aiming to go far in the cup. There has been a small improvement under Howe but nowhere near what is needed.

I know they probably couldn’t attract better, but Howe was a poor appointment.

I didnt watch all of the game but what I did watch I thought Newcastle were a touch unlucky and the Cambridge goalie had a blinder. Confidence is a massive part of the game. Newcastle seem to be bereft of any. It`s almost like they need the luck to go their way once to give then something to break this tail spin.

At least the owners didn't invite the players round to their Embassy.

The directors went to see the players after.

I suppose it easier to clean up blood in shower blocks

I found it utterly bizarre that anyone would suggest they’re not in a relegation battle.. Could only be someone from the playstation generation. They need to win 9/19 games to get to 38 points.
No chance of that happening being PL enemy number one (giving us a rest for half a season at least).

PiGMOL ref the EFL as well so I wouldn't guarantee them bouncing straight up even if they bought the best players and second best coach in the world to do it.

Newcastle and stars mentioned together in the same sentence!
Surely that goes against the trade descriptions act...

Don't think anyone will need 38 points to stay up this season.
More than likely. But getting beat by Cambridge, coupled with being generally wank, would point to Newcastle struggling to reach 30 points.

But hey, domalino always knows best. Clearly anyone who disagrees with him is 'intellectually dishonest'.

Thing is 30 points may keep you up because the bottom 4 are seriously bad
