Next academy stars?

I would be very surprised if Mfuni is not rated as a potential first-team star.
Going on loan at 17 is a statement of faith in him, IMO, and a recognition that even at that age he is beyond EDS level.
I hope the right club is chosen because I think he is a potential worldy.

How is this group panning out?
My friends son plays witht this group and has st bedes education. I cant add too much I asked him 12 months ago how good the group was . Her reckoned there was more than one or two who at that young age were showing enough to suggest you wouldnt rule them out of being city players in the future. Obviously along long way to go and much can happen. At under 12 they were runners up to juventus playing a year above their natural age.More recently semi finalists in a tournament in Germany.

Agree, appears the most likely to cross the bridge on a regular basis amongst current EDS and u18 groups

It’s always interesting to debate but so difficult to predict. For example Jacob Wright was always a really good footballer, but never in the reckoning, never got a mention in here, and then dado Mascol gets injured, opportunity knocks, the kid grabs it, and somebody around the first team smust have something and boom he’s one of the first names mentioned in this conversation. Rightly so btw but it highlights the unpredictability.

I still think Dado Mascol will get a shot at first team involvement if he can get fit, Ndala looks like the profile they will move on and make a few bucks.

Other than that I think get your City TV and see who starts to shine

Yeah I honestly can't remember, but I feel we RARELY ever loan out a 17 year old.

The club must feel he has already surpassed u21 football at such a young age and would rather have him toughen up against men.

And I can't blame that thought, lots of young defenders need that experience as they often get shellshocked playing against adults.

I think JSP is the most recent example who looked terrible imo for us, but then now has gone on loan and slowly gained the experience and looks better.

I might have preferred Mfuni to develop with us as a loan still can go wrong, but we have so many left sided defenders that I understand it.

I'd forgotten that he's just 17 (18 next month), which is a testament to how calm he looked when making his debut.

In general terms, how good is St Bedes education? Is it that big a draw for players and their parents?

Quite a lot of players send their kids to Riley’s school both City and United. Interims have just left after his sacking. De Bruyne, Walker, were there Stones, Casemiro kids are still there.

It is a big draw but its results are fairly mediocre, the top Grammar schools achieve pushing 90% of gcse grades at 7-9 (old A/A*), St Bedes is more like 40%

I can’t believe Mbete and Breckin are still at the club. Presumably nobody wants to match their wages so they’re happy just to sit around until their contracts expire

That's harsh. He looked good IMO. The team was an absolute mess though.

Your gonna have to be more specific, I assume your referring to JSP?

The whole team didnt look good, but he definitely stood out as particularly poor.

But it was an awful time/environment to bring him in.

The players that stand out to me are Teddie Lamb, Kaden Braithwaite, Christian Dunbar-McDonald, Xavier Parker, Floyd Samba, Dante Headley, Leke Drake and Reigan Heskey.

I realise this is a lot but this reflects the age group is very good. Each of these players listed above is 18 or under. Being so young it is difficult to say if they will make it with City as regulars but their current projection is definitely showing they are giving themselves every chance to have a career in the premier league at least.

Xavier Parker is an absolute gem and I think he will have a rapid rise. Floyd Samba is already rising very rapidly through the age groups. Dunbar-McDonald is having a great season.

2nd half of the season has barely begun and time for others to also shine.

History currently shows those who go out on loan under Guardiola’s tenure don’t necessarily make it at City. That doesn’t mean they won’t have great careers, e.g. Morgan Rogers.

O’Reilly, Foden and Lewis current established first team squad members have never been on loan.
