It might help him up his game a bit. Wouldnt go for De Jong as he is a naturally leader already, if you give him the arm band, we still only have De Jong as a leader on the Pitch, you give it Barry, De Jong will still be a leader on the pitch but hopefully Barry will also step up to the plate and then we ve got two leaders on the pitch, if that makes any sense?

Shay, I fear De Jong would have to restrain his game if he had the responsability of captain as it would put the team under more pressure if their captain is booked etc.

I dont actually think it matters, the players should be motivated enough themselves, all the captain should have to do is shake hands with the ref before the game and call heads or tails.
