Really really interesting opinions floated here.
There are stalwarts of 'tradition' and those who embrace change and there's quite a(excuse the pun) black and white issue about it.
Interesting that some have quite rightly pointed out that a good actor can make any role watchable, if the parameters allow it. 'M', for example, was never a woman before the shake up and now who actually bats an eye lid over the position?
In 'The Avengers' franchise, Nick Fury is Black due to the recent visage of the character, when in days gone by he has been a silver side haired, cigar chomping White man of thick build. Does anybody give a sh*t now?
Not that I know of.
Before this incarnation of Spidey hit the screens, there was a real thought of making him the newer alternate reality Spidey, Miles Morales...
Couldn't this kid from 'Attack the Block' play him?
My point is, most film is FICTIONAL is meant to be open to interpretation! It is only one person's vision that is brought to the screen, as to why we as a society, are hell bent on pigeon holing characters into certain roles.
I wonder how people felt about the all Black production of 'Julius Caesar' that was on recently...!!!
