Next Manager after Pep

I’m willing vinny is the real deal. It would be somewhat poetic to see the man who we all earmarked due to his character but who has also lived the whole transformation of the club
The story would be poetic, however, something inside me says we don’t want to have the man with the statue out front to take the helm and follow pep as manager.

If it goes wrong in any way it would be horrible

The reality is whoever we get will be a downgrade, given we have the best coach of his generation, catch 22 and a decision I don’t envy up top…

It will take a complete revolution of ideas in realty

The last thing we need is somebody given more time than they deserve because of their accomplishments as a player, which should be entirely separate from their accomplishments as a manager. If Vinny, who I love, proves himself to be good enough to be a Man City manager that would be absolutely fantastic. But if he one day gets the job, he should be judged by the same standards as anyone else. "Time" "process" and other words that excuse failure may work in clubs that are not expected to compete for trophies every year. When we are expected to compete for every trophy the time is always now. More time should be earned, not given.
With that attitude Pep would’ve been gone after his first season.

Thats completely false. Pep was widely known as the best manager in the world when he joined which obviously made him start on a higher level of trust than the average manager. Under Peps first season we also got more wins, lost less games, scored more goals, conceded less goals, got 12 more points and finished on a higher position in the league than in the year before. Clearly a step forward which earned him more time.

You can be sure that whoever gets the job after Pep will have been thoroughly assessed to ensure they have all the tools to be successful. The shape of the club is such that he will not leave us with an ageing squad and everything will be in place to make it as easy a transition as possible. I don't think Luis Enrique is as good a manager as Pep, but he followed him at Barca and made subtle tweaks which continued their success and arguably made them even better. We could get someone in who feels that dominance of possession is less important than a more direct approach at times and focuses on looking to mix the attacking play up more. They don't need to teach the players how to pass or move, those elements are there. They just fine tune it to their style.

It's not rocket science. The rags and Arsenal were in decline for years and were held together by the manager's that had been there so long. Ferguson remained too influential and ran every element of the club. Once he went they didn't have a clue. Wenger created a myth that Arsenal were poverty stricken and couldn't compete. They could, he wasted a lot of money and he didn't adapt to the changing times. He just whinged. When Liverpool finally got a decent manager in and gave him time they managed to compete again, the same thing is happening with Arsenal now. The Chelsea model of constant managerial changes is fine if you're buying the best players in the world. The trouble they have now is that they've not done that so they need someone who is at the top of their game.

. . .only 1 candidate for me. Vinny - even if he was only 35.

Rub it into the scousers faces even more with years of continued success copying their Shankly model by bringing through from within.

Superb communicator, City legend and complete top bloke. Win Champions league first season.
Much as I love Vinnie, we have to think with our heads, not our hearts.

Seems people really underestimating Txixi decision to appoint manager with less CV background.

This is the same man that appoint Pep as manager to Barca Senior team back then with only Barca B as his CV, it's akin to appoint our current EDS manager as next senior City manager after Pep leaves that's how insane the decision back then was.

The appointment of Vinny as the next City manager will not come as surprise given our DoF track record to appoint what he feel the best for the club regardless what anyone especially fans think about it.

The one thing that we don't talk about is, does Txixi ( and even Soiriano) stay when Pep goes? That could influence who gets the job. I do wonder what the attraction is for him, given trophies won, time here, weather etc.

On the Manager appointment, there is one thing for sure, if he doesn't win something in his first season, then there will be an almighty pile on from the press, opposition supporters and the plastics that wet their knickers at the occasional draw or dare I say defeat.
The new guy whoever he is, will need us then.

Pep wasnt equivalent to Brian Barry-Murphy (current eds manager and I had to google that).

He played for barca for 10 years and was a former captain. He also had a small amount of lower league managerial experience (albeit with barca b).

Vinny would be a pretty close comparison to appointing Pep was back then

Id be shocked if Txiki went after Kompany when Pep goes.

Kompany has zero experience managing anyone with any sort of ego or attitude, ability to juggle all major competitions and plan against the best managers in the world. Pep leaving likely results in half the backroom staff going as well and perhaps several players.

Pep is likely to be heavily involved in his successor, rightly or wrongly. I doubt he would put Kompany on his list.

This thread is seriously weird in the present circumstances but whenever Pep does leave the building lets hope Txiki stays around, if they were both to leave at the same time it would be an utter disaster.

Both Pep and the board will ensure that when he goes it is known in advance and that the next manager has a squad which doesn't require a huge overhaul. The error the rags made is that bacon ran the club and no one else had a fucking clue what they were doing. They then allowed him to retain influence but on a part time basis and it's taken 10 years for them to finally realise that they need to both hire a manager who knows what he is doing and support him through structuring the club accordingly.

In terms of managing ego's or attitude, that's a load of shite that people spout. Ten Haag had no experience of that with his Ajax team but he landed at the rags and froze out their club icon. You think Kompany who has played with numerous world class players will allow individuals to ruin what he's trying to do? Not a fucking chance. They'll be straight out of there. He was a leader as a player, he's not going to let anyone fuck about when he's manager.

The club will make sure we've got a squad that can compete and will bring in someone they feel is up to the challenge of managing the side. They'll give them time and they'll back them financially.

We don't yet know where the club will turn. Luis Enrique replaced Pep at Barcelona on the back of a good stint as Barca B manager but a poor season with Roma and a decent season with Celta Vigo. He was hardly a standout candidate but came in and won the treble because the squad was still so good. When you look at the young players we have, a few more signings and we'll be able to bring someone in to manager players who Pep has developed for 2-3 years and will adapt quite easily. It's a much easier job then.

It's not really something I want to think about, but sadly one day Pep will call it a day at City.

Just wondering what the general consensus is on who should replace him? He's only agreed two more seasons, so looking at end of 2024/2025 season possibly. I know two years is a long time in football and someone we haven't even heard of could come out of the woodwork in the meantime as a top manager...

Somebody who Pep has worked with and moulded to his style, that would be a seamless transition, like Arteta?

An ex-City player, like Patrick Vieira?

A City legend, like Vincent Kompany?

Poach a good manager from a smaller club, like Thomas Frank?

Just any old 'big name' manager, like Conte/Tuchel/Nagelsmann?

Anybody but Pochettino, please!!

Nobody has mentioned the idea of Patrick Vieira? I think he's done a good job everywhere he has been. Sure he hasn't won trophies, but were there any expectations at clubs like New York, Nice & Crystal Palace?

I think he's gathered experience at progressively bigger clubs, he'd be respected by professional footballers who would want to come and play for him, he's a big name in the football world, and I think he's got Palace playing some good stuff.

I know he wouldn't be everyones first choice, but if we got him I wouldn't be disappointed!

I saw a video a little while back of Kompany giving his players a bollocking in the dressing room (not sure if it was at Burnley or Anderlecht). I'm sure it will be on YouTube!

I was scared just watching it at home - I wouldn't cross him if he was my manager, thats for sure!

Edit: Here is the video...

I'll be interested of course to see how Vinny does next season assuming the trend continues and Burnley are promoted. I don't want to see the same thing happen that did at ManUre with Ole and Chelsea with Frank- appointments more influenceed by their history with the club than their CV and actual managerial cred.
