Yeah it definitely happens in other sports too including football (I'm looking at you) but, it's cheating the public as well as the competition.It's a difficult one though, injuries are such a common occurrence in NFL that you understand a team resting players when they have done enough in the first 17 weeks that means the outcome of the game has no bearing on their final position.
But then on the other side of the coin, you have teams who will play 17 competitive games, and others may only play 16 and like Denver, they end up getting an advantage.
This happens in many other sports, so not just an NFL problem.
