NFL 2024-25

A very different culture, university sport is THE feeder system for the likes of the NFL and NBA and the levels of investment in college sport are astronomical. You get multi millionaires and billionaires, often alumni, helping fund teams. Jimmy Haslam, for example has donated tens of millions of dollars to Tennessee University. Oregon has received around a $1bn in donations. Some universities now give out multi million dollar deals to players. Then you have the TV deals and revenue from merchandise, not to mention the ticket sales (for a big, non championship game, minimum ticket prices will be c£200).

College teams are often based in different cities to NFL teams. Thus, for many of those who live close to the colleges, it is the highest quality American football they can watch in-person without having to drive several hours. You also have alumni attending games as as the current student population.
I did wonder why the get so many but that makes perfect sense if you don’t even have an NFL team in your state or it’s just too far to go.

We won't get Garrett, this happens every time a big free agent is on the market we get linked and linked and linked and then they go somewhere else.

Best case for Bills improving is getting a genuinely fast WR, a starting quality safety in the draft and special teams stops being shite with a new coordinator.
He isn't a free agent i don't think. The Lions have been linked with him as well and they are talking two first round draft picks, second and third rounders and Jameson Williams. They can fuck right off for that regardless of how good he is. Lions hopefully continue to build through the draft and pick up useful pieces through free agency.

They won't get that much and certainly won't get Williams.

But after watching last night, if i was the Lions, i'd be on the phone to Cleveland about getting Garrett now.

Yep. Garrett is certainly not free. He has two years left on his contract but he wants to leave

How much would you give up for him?
He'd cost a bit, at least one 1st rounder and lower round picks plus adding the QB Hooker has been mentioned.

The thing that was noticeable last night, was that the Eagles were quick off the line and no matter who they put in, everyone on their line was causing the Chiefs problems.

The Lions aren't quite there yet, even with getting Hutchinson & McNeill back, but adding Garrett or Crosby would put them up there with the the Eagles next season.

This Eagles defense is clearly well coached by Fangio but it is also worth noting they are stacked with first and second rounders from the draft. Howie Roseman has done a great job putting that roster together. They are about the best run franchise in the NFL.

Agree & as a Miami Dolphins fan wanted to add I was excited when we managed to hire Fangio as our defensive coordinator 2 years ago. However, in retrospect he wasn't the best fit for Miami when we quickly discovered he hardly ever designs any high pressure plays with blitzes and relies on the front 4 in the trenches to disrupt. Miami didn't have the personnel for this & its now obvious he was a perfect fit for Philly, where he's turned a horrendous tackling defensive team a year ago into one of the best defensive units this season.

A lot of credit has to be given to Roseman in getting the players that Fangio & Sirianni required.

A penny or perhaps cent for Schoen & Mara's thoughts in bizarrely letting their best player Saquon Barkley for the Giants test the free agency market instead of locking him down to the team which was well documented in the Hard Knocks tele series & then seeing him turn in a sensation for their rivals & winning the Super Bowl!

And Cleveland have said they won’t trade. 2 1st round picks and a decent player and they might listen. Id take him in a heartbeat at Lambeau, we don’t draft well in 1st round anyway. (We traded up to get Love, Hurts was in same draft)

Yeah, Fangio has the 'bend not break' approach, rarely blitzing. Perfect match for the Eagles as they have plenty of grunt on the DL and their defense at the back end is very good. Having had a Fangio disciple (Woods) as the Browns DC I too have witnessed the futility of this approach when opposition guards and tackles were getting through to the second level due to inept DTs. The Browns seemingly refused to invest in DL with a DC who has this approach. Ineptitude.

Not sure how long the Eagles will be able to retain the strength of DL as Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith are all coming off rookie contracts in the next year or two and they will be looking at $20m+ contracts. Josh Sweat is a free agent too(?). Roseman is a smart operator though so he may well work it out. This is the draft though to go for DL talent. It appears stacked. Perfect timing for the Eagles to get some 2nd/3rd round DL and let them develop for a year.

Expecting 1.2 million at the Eagles parade on Friday. Peoplstarted to arrive in front of the stage Thursday at noon. At 69 years old I believe that I will walk up to the route watch them pass and go back home to my recliner to watch on TV.
After this month of playoffs and the Super Bowl, I'm looking forward to getting back into my City gear and watching us win the FA Cup and reach top 4 and observe the acquisition and integration of some good new talent in to that beautiful blue kit.
Until tomorrow evening I'm sure the sound of Fly Eagles Fly and shouts of "Go Birds " will be echoing through both my head and the streets.
C'mon City!!!!

I can't lie, i like the whole idea of it.

Be great if we had something similar.

To any of those interested in the draft, like me, you can use a mock draft simulator. Here are links to a couple of free ones:

NB select the speed as fast. Anything slower is painful.

Remember, outside of the first round, draft based on what your needs will be in a year with contracts expiring or becoming too expensive and players 'age-ing out'.

From 27 February is the NFL Combine. I will be watching bits and bobs as I find it fascinating. Would be fun (but impossible!) to have something similar in football.
Yep, it would.

They should do something with free agents, where they go into a draft end of the season for each league. Not sure how, but be interesting!
