NFL 2024-25

Pretty much every year i will flick onto the live game, see nothings happening, then turn off. Last night i did this 4 times and only got one bit of action, which was a touchdown. the rest was adverts and lots of shouting.

I think it's part of the appeal for some though..

An excuse to lay on the settee for hours and you don't need to be fully focused non stop, because there's a few seconds of action, followed by a lull while they get ready for the next play.

I can see why people enjoy it though. First time I watched it, it seemed like there's barely anything happening, I guess because one might think it might be like rugby or something and then you find it to be just a stop-start game, mostly the former....but the more I've watched of it, it gets more interesting once you get accustomed to the way its played.

I'm not a big fan or anything, but it's more watchable than I once thought.

I've been a nfl fan since 90s..its hard to pick a team for a number of reasons. The time zone is the biggest. Half the games on a weekend are at a reasonable time to watch. The rest are on way to late. So you end up watching the best game every week not your chosen team.

Then you have the massive squads, I've tried to get into it like you follow a UK football club where you know the team and the squad and can get excited about transfers. The draft is great for building excitement around new players, but the squads are so big daft players often just disappear. And if you add in the above where you can't watch every game then it becomes impossible to track what's going in detail.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm just a neutral fan and enjoy watching the games. If I lived in the US I'd get into the collage game. Zero coverage of that here.

Crazy how big some of those college games are.

I'm an avid boxing fan and I recall some fight cards delaying the ring walk time so it didn't clash with college football. I was a bit baffled at first and then saw some of the crowds they play in front of.

I think it was Michigan state university that was doing over 100,000 attendance regularly.

Yeh the college thing is mental.

Like Leeds Uni having 100,000 for a home football game.

Even high school teams have a mini stadium....

When i played for my school, we had to scrape around for matching kit

Yeah when I played footy for my school it was all a bit " it's alright lads, we're kicking downhill second half"

University of Michigan. I went to a few games in the early 2000's there and there were 109,000 people there. Mental really.

I really enjoy the NFL and i picked Seahawks as my team. But not feeling it....

No idea who to support.

I follow Heat in NBA, religiously. I watch a good 10/15 games a season when they're on at good times.

I think the issue with NFL for me is that it's a short season, and once your team isn't in the playoffs the excitement goes
They’ve been in the playoffs 15 times this century and won it in that time, too. Woe is you! ;-)

I think 8 Colleges have stadia that can accommodate over 100,000 people, with the University of Michigan (not State) having the largest. Wonderful spectacles.

Full credit to the Eagles. First half was about as dominant as you're ever likely to see particularly on defence.
Chiefs never recovered from the early score. I think it left them shellshocked. Also, Mahomes was left exposed far too many times by poor blocking and the receivers were struggling to find space to allow him to play quick ball.

I love the Superbowl, but didn't realise it was on last night until about 20 people on Facebook who would never watch it told everyone that they weren't watching it last night either. Weird cunts.
Always baffles when there is a thread that lots of people clearly enjoy and watch and engage with, yet people feel the need to come into that thread to tell everyone how shit it is and they don't watch it.

Might just drop a few statuses over the next weekend about how everyone's kid's are shit at football and I won't be going watching them down the sports centre on Sunday.

Everybody on the Internet has to have an opinion apparently. The same people wouldn't walk up to a bunch of people in real life and tell them what they're doing is a load of shit, but to be fair the miserable cunts who try and shit on other peoples happiness would have to step outside their houses first

We won't get Garrett, this happens every time a big free agent is on the market we get linked and linked and linked and then they go somewhere else.

Best case for Bills improving is getting a genuinely fast WR, a starting quality safety in the draft and special teams stops being shite with a new coordinator.

The Bills tend to draft badly so they may as well use the picks on Garrett as he is as close as you will get to a guarantee.

Three or four very good safeties in the draft. Depends on your flavour - box, free or combined.

Not sure what you mean by a fast WR. They are all pretty fast! Not sure if you mean extra shifty or you are referring to long speed. A declining Deebo is seemingly available. Not super quick. I'd go for Tee Higgins. Not super fast but a great contested catcher. He would be your No1, no problem. Stefon Diggs is a free agent this off season ;)

As an Eagles fan, the game was incredible. I was nervous the whole time but looking back...

40-22 is a very, very forgiving score for how dominant that win was. The Eagles had more points than the Chiefs had yards at halftime. It was 34-0 before the Chiefs crossed midfield. Just an insanely dominant performance. Mahomes looked genuinely shellshocked several times - they were all over him.

A very different culture, university sport is THE feeder system for the likes of the NFL and NBA and the levels of investment in college sport are astronomical. You get multi millionaires and billionaires, often alumni, helping fund teams. Jimmy Haslam, for example has donated tens of millions of dollars to Tennessee University. Oregon has received around a $1bn in donations. Some universities now give out multi million dollar deals to players. Then you have the TV deals and revenue from merchandise, not to mention the ticket sales (for a big, non championship game, minimum ticket prices will be c£200).

College teams are often based in different cities to NFL teams. Thus, for many of those who live close to the colleges, it is the highest quality American football they can watch in-person without having to drive several hours. You also have alumni attending games as as the current student population.
