NFL Draft 2013-14 (City Related) UPDATE page 21.

Re: NFL Draft & Menelik Watson (City Related)

I think Belichick loves hording draft picks more than he does actually picking players. Classic Pats strategy to get a lot of players low down.

Dont put the Vikings down too much though. They were a strong team in 2012 and clearly they feel that they are better adding three 1st round picks, ie ready made talent, so they can push on.

Wasnt surprised to see Watson fall, this draft is all about the trenches, not a lot of top rated 'skill position' players and he was always going to be the 5th/6th best guard in the field. He will get drafted i think, maybe not utill day three. He needs to remember that getting drafted at all is a huge achievement. You seen players go to bits if they draft lower than expected.

My boys Giants took a tackle in Pugh, though we might focus on plugging up the 31st ranked secondary but the philosophy has always been to draft value and trade on it later.

In other news, if you're bored on Sunday come and watch some British American Football. Its like the NFL but with more mud.

Ok, hands up, NFL thicko here. Will someone please educate me, draft?, round 1? what does all this mean, how do they get drafted

It's an extemely complex way of getting new players onto the teams each year. Basically, the lowest ranking team ( eg. Reading in the Premier League ) has first choice of the new/best players......BUT they can swap with another team for a another player so have the pick later on in the draft. The top draft might be a quaterback but the lowest rank team might feel they need to recruit in another postion so they might swap with another team who needs a QB more.

The idea is that it ' levels the playing field ' so, for this year Baltimore, who won the SuperBowl get the last choice....BUT another team may give up their draft and swap with Baltimore..........

Very simplistic way of explaining a very complex system.......

Thanks for that mate i THINK i understand. Just got to page 12 my head hurts i am off back to the Bale thread (-;

Redskins have done best out of this draft by trading their no1 pick this year ( plus last years and next years) to the Rams to get RGIII last year

Nah, he'll go very early tonight. There is zero chance he goes to the 4th round. He'll be taken early tonight.

-- Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:45 am --

Wasn't a bad first round to lose a pick from this year, although the Rams had a great night. Losing your first next year might be tough as the class looks full of talent. Especially so if RGIII continues to get hurt.

I thought I had a handle on how it worked UNTIL I read this explanation. I'd always got the worst team last year gets first pick of the rookies this year part but then he threw in that bit about the top draft pick might be a quarterback but they may not want a quarterback. I'd always assumed that getting first pick meant they just had a choice of anyone at all not just a specific person. Or have a I confused myself even more now?

You are right, Dan; the worst team does get the first pick BUT they have the option to swap with another team. If the top draft is say a QB but they don't want one, they can swap with another team who might want a QB. I only mentioned QB as an example.

And another question (sorry to hijack the thread with my ignorance) who decides who the top draft pick is? I'm pretty sure a thread on 'who's the best player in the Premier League' ould throw up at least a dozen different suggestions for differing reasons so how is that person chosen!

NOW you are asking, Dan...................God knows but probably a panel of ' experts ' from College Football and an NFL panel.
