We need to confine this loony institution to the dust bin of british history!

How about we close down all private health funds and pump the money into the nhs, so that everyone gets the same health care, regardless of wealth?

But people with private health care still pay taxes and NI

That's so that when they get something serious like cancer and discover BUPA won't treat beyond first treatment they have a fall back to which they are entitled.

Is cancer treatment really not covered by BUPA?

What a great country we are lucky enough to live in.

Where my dad can go to his GP for a routine checkup. Be examined, have a problem spotted and be sent to hospital THAT day. All for free.

Then have life saving heart surgery and six weeks of aftercare off the best health workers in the world. Treatment costing many hundreds of thousands of pounds.

And he didn't have to sell his house to pay for it.

Some of you mail readers on here need to think how lucky you are.

And if we didn't spend billions on killing the brown man in illegal wars we could improve it even more.

Long live the nhs because believe me if these fascist cunts get there way it'll be gone for ever.

Then you'll really have something to moan about

I wasn't arguing about the wrongs and rights regardless of private health care i think everyone should contribute to the NHS

Absolutely.
It's scandalous that poor people can get the life saving medical treatment they need free at the point of access.
You fucking nouveau riche Cheshire prat.

Try going to a bupa hospital in the middle of the night with a sick child or a broken arm.

You can stand and shout outside all you like but you will end up in an NHS hospital that night.

people get very defensive about the nhs and thats fine were all entitled to an opinion, the mistake that people make is thinking that its free, its not free, you pay for it with your taxes and high NI contributions........tbh though having lived under the nhs 27 years ago and now having private cover in Oz I would never want to go back to the nhs, my MIL died whilst waiting months for an operation that would have saved her life at Ashton Hospital, if she'd been able to spend all the money she paid for the NHS into a private health fund she would have had to wait a matter of days and lived a much longer life, the nhs is brimming with stories of cancer patients waiting for surgery and dying as the cancer spreads

it even takes a week to get a blood test result, takes a day here (cos its private)

Don't you fucking start shit stirring, just when I was starting to like you again.
My comment was to one specific poster who happens to live with mummy and daddy in a snobby Cheshire village who has a history of posting inaccurate right wing drivel.
It was not meant to imply that every resident of Cheshire was equally as stupid.
That simply isn't possible.

Glad its working for you, i have to wait over a week for blood test results and it take at least two weeks to see our regular doctor. 2 years wait to have a neck disc removed, and 3 months wait to see a pediatrician (cos its not private).

I'm a pragmatist on this, because we don't live in an ideal world.
Those with money will always be able to afford better everything than those who don't,and health care is no exception,so let them go to BUPA if they can afford it.
It's one less person for the NHS to treat.
But we should also,as a civilised society, maintain a well funded and adequately trained and staffed NHS for the majority of folk who, through no fault of their own,get sick and don't have the safety net of a private policy.

NHS bashing has always seemed a popular past time for everyone. All I have ever known is bad news about NHS rarely hear about the good stuff they do. Yet they do millions of great things every year and care for a great deal more with little praise

There is a very good reason why PMI companies don't compete with the NHS for the provision of emergency treatment, and it's very simple.

The NHS is amazing at providing primary, emergency healthcare.

And to the OP, your underwriting terms with BUPA probably exclude pre-exisiting conditions. You could try to lie about it, but they'd probably write to your GP asking them to confirm your first symptom dates etc. if these are prior to your policy start date, then the claim would be declined.

It maybe that i live in a rural town, but it takes at least 5 working days to get your results, if you can get an appointment with your doctor.
Things must be different up in banana bending land ;)

Private healthcare is NOT set up for emergency treatment. Never has been.

I know of only one or two private hospitals that has an emergency walk-in centre.
