Niall Quinn

One of my heros as a kid growing up! "Lacks the stardust that's at old Trafford " what a ****
Strange innit, we score a pen,so do they, they score a header,we score a better one, we then away from home to Stoke score two more goals than them and yet they have stardust and our score flatters us.

Nial can can go wobble his head til it drops off.

I spoke to a bloke at City a few years ago, during at tour of the ground about how City are treated in the media. I said about ex players like Quinn and Mills always having a pop but he did say Quinn was a nice guy. He also said as a player he would, without fuss or publicity, help out in the soup kitchens in Manchester. No defence of Danny Mills mind .

That's because he ended up there when they found him the night before.

I couldn't believe it when Tyler commenting on utds spending spree said about them spending £150mil. " well who can blame them,if you've got it flaunt it"
I heard that when I just flicked on to see the score. I remember us paying £38m for the best striker that the leagues ever seen and we got told that we're ruining football.

One of the best deals we ever did that..I think it quite insulting to Sergio that he costs half that of pogba.

The assessment by Quinn and Souness was utterly mystifying.

Pre-match we were told we never win at windy Stoke, it's almost impossible, with a long list of teams who have lost there recently and a bleak outlook for us City fans watching the game.

We win 4-1 and then we are told it is poor because a few passes went astray second half. Both these have been fair at times to us but seem to have lost all sense of proportion now Pep is here.

The new media line is 'City now have Guardiola so if they don't win each game at least 8-0 City and Pep are failing'.

Idiocy.

I do think a lot in the media want Pep to fail, not specifically for any bias against us but because of the way they have been bigging up the unique challenge of the premier league and how much if differs (is harder, more competitive etc) from the other European domestic leagues for years. If Pep comes in and basically blows that away, defying the critics that warned how hard a job he would have adapting us and his style, in turn making them look like the tools they are, it could be financially detrimental to some outlets as fans from other countries might start to take more interest in Spain or Germany.
Mourinho is seen now as part of the furniture and a premier league win by him at the shite is almost what they invented the premier league for

Thats the exact reason why they want him to fail, because its us!

Had he gone to Arsenal, Chelsea or the Rags it would have been an all together different narrative and tone being set.

They wont see us for stardust this season fella.

I absolutely agree, the post match analysis certainly seemed at odds from the game I had just watched. Even during the period post Stoke scoring, I never really felt like we were under any real pressure, the two goals at the end that provided the 'flattering' scoreline were a reflection of the work Stoke needed to put into the previous 85 minutes of the game to keep pace with us. Like Pep said we had so many 'nearly' moments up until that point that we could well have had the game sewn up earlier.

I did find myself thinking that both Quinn and Souness were putting an unduly negative spin on a thoroughly professional display but quite frankly I don't give a toss. If the pundits want stardust, good for them, for me, I'll settle with a 4-1 win when we haven't reached our peak and still have a number of regulars to join the first team squad.

Spot on.

Spot on. Exactly how i saw it. Not exactly 6 - 1 (rags), 5 - 1, 6 - 0 (spuds) standard. But still a decent performance.

Good post this Ched. And worth considering as definetly part of the bullshit line these wankers are toeing.

Yep, they are fucking dying to give it the big 'welcome to the hardest league in the world' we told you so bollocks. That was clearly part of the narrative when things were not going our way at any point during the first two games.
Maybe he should get coaching advice from fat Sam or Moyes.lol.

i quote Garth Crooks team of the week and Aguero

The referees' new directive this season could not have been clearer - any holding in the penalty area will be penalised. The Stoke City centre-back seemed to completely disregarded the warning and handed Manchester City and Sergio Aguero in particular the perfect gift. The infringement provided the catalyst for one of the most comprehensive demolition jobs I have seen for some time. Aguero is once again on cue for another 25 goals this season. If the Argentine were to reach that incredible landmark for the fifth consecutive campaign we may have to consider him Premier League player of the decade, never mind the season.

now that's how you call it Mr Quinn say what you see

I agree with the sentiment but Crooks clearly hasn't done his numbers on Aguero. Unless he means in all competitions his PL totals are 24,26,17,12 and 23. His appearances with goals scored make that 17 look impressive and the rest also bar the 12, but it's lazy writing as ever from him.

We win away from home 4-1 at Stoke, one of the hardest places to go & get a result especially for one of the top clubs as Stoke always seem to raise their game against the big clubs. They win at home against Southampton who are being weakened by the season as the big clubs continually take their best players. This summer they have lost Mane, Pelle & Wanyama with nobody of any note coming in to replace them, yet their win is hailed as a great result. It is obvious to a village idiot which is the better result.
