I have/had no idea who it was/is, I was just saying how every journalist knew we were in for someone but nobody knew who, even off the record, which is a very strange situation. Journalists know 99% of things happening even if they don't know it strong enough to go to print with it. But nobody seems to have had a name so it was odd and worthy of comment.

I did however put forward a complete guess that the reason for this was that it didn't go through usual City channels and instead was a Viana signing, which you'd presume a Porto player would be

Means he turned us down before for a chance at Barca who didn't want him and he's ended up at Porto. A lad who would easily have his head turned if Barca ever glanced his way again.

Sell on is not irrelevant. It makes a difference to how much Porto get and, therefore, the are likely to insist on the full release clause amount which we currently are baulking at, apparently.

Correct.....but the point is, the 'sell on' doesn't mean they can say no if the clause is met, or hold out for more, and without it, we could still say no, or offer less.....same as any other player with one, so the 'sell on' is irrelevant.

From what I read, he is more of an #8, box-to-box midfield who can double as a #6. So it looks like we are shopping for someone like Guimaraes. Porto fans seem to be fairly upset over losing him.

In any case, fresh legs in midfield is going to be good for us.

I think you are right and I guess the club have been careful to identify someone who can play with or without Rodri.
