I want this to happen simply because we have no legs in midfield. We are the worst team in the league without the ball.

However, this kid isn't going to save our season. We're still going to be inconsistent and I think a few more batterings are on the way between now and the summer.

Not trying to be a party pooper but the issues with the current team go far beyond simply missing Rodri and the resolution isn't as simple as putting a kid in his spot who doesn't even play as a lone DM.

Other than desperately trying to finish in the top four, this season is a write-off. Don't pin your hopes on this guy to return us to former glory in less than half a season and don't write him off when he inevitably struggles in a struggling side.

I don’t think this kid is a specialist defensive midfielder from what I’ve heard.
Neither was Fernandinho. However, the latter had the mobility and intelligence to be fitted into our system and he connected the disparate parts. We desperately need such mobility and nous, even with Rodri, so perhaps Gonzalez can be similarly shaped.

True. We have a fighting chance if we manage to secure him though and that's good enough for me. This signing could potentially stop the rot.

Not sure he's even right for what we need. Seems similar to Javi Garcia, who looked great in la Liga but wasn't up to the pace and power needed as a DM in the Premier League. The very fact we've waited so long must mean the recruitment team have similar doubts.
Javi Garcia is the only player in the last 15 years worse than Nunes.

Man was a walking hologram.

Leaving this ridiculously late, my money is on it not happening as we're not going to pay that release clause
Then that's the choice the club will have made.

Porto's stance is pretty understandable and clear. Put them in a position they can't say no to selling the player as that's the release clause, or he doesn't leave on deadline day and stays with them the rest of the season. By the summer, lots may change.

The only way I see the club getting this for less than the release clause is including someone the other way on loan or permanently. Given the timing of it, probably on loan.

If it happens, it will probablynhappen quite late in the window, and for the release clause.

It often turns out that these things are further advanced than the reports suggest. Let's hope it's true in this case.
100% - people said the same about Marmoush and pretty much every deal we’ve done this month -“are we fumbling it”

Fucking relieved when this window is over so we can talk about something else lol

Like, the summer transfer window on the Quiet 20 thread?
