He has been brought on for the last twenty minutes or so…usually in game where we have been struggling and never in his proper position.

I think Pep was quoted as saying ‘he is great between the lines’…..so give him a proper try there Pep.
 
If we buy him and he flops I think that means we shouldn’t buy any Mendes players anymore. Look at Wolverhampton. I think 50% are his players.
 
A fervent Barca supporting Catalan colleague reckons Nico Gonzalez is very, very good.

Says that he isn't so sure about the 6 position long term, as he sees him for as an 8, but isn't that ideal for when Rodri comes back ?

Someone who can stabilise us now & stay in the team once Rodri returns ?

Yep - the big difference at the moment is that both the Scousers and Arse have solidity - much as I hate Gabriel and Saliba they rarely miss matches. Van-Dyke came back from a bad injury 2 years ago and now never seems to miss games too. In other words it's easier to bring in a kid when you have a solid reliable system. As for us we've got to the point where we either need to try an keep Ruben and Nathan fit or move on and see what our 2 new centre backs can do - they cost a lot because they have the potential and who knows maybe they would turn out to be our future pairing for the next 3-4 years.

Midfield is the area that even when we get Rodri back we have to sign a Gonzalez type player because if we rely on Kovacic, Bernie and Gundo even alongside Rodri we will not be good enough - other teams have adjusted to our possession play and know press em, run harder and they panic.

Far too many passengers at the min.

That needs to change.

Pep really does need to give the new players and a few youngsters a proper chance now before the summer.

This season is dead, let’s try to see who can step up and not waste the rest watching senior players fuck up and walk about the place stinking it out.

I can’t get onboard with the excuses anymore. Losing games in the manner we did against Arsenal is unacceptable.
 
He’s in the Porto squad for their game tonight? Does that have any affect on the transfer or can it be done with him still there

This is it - people are missing the point.
No so naive to think a midfielder solves all our issues but it’s the intent to start now and get the ball rolling
