Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

That was one of the worst second half performances I've seen from a player in some time.

He is not mentally cut out for this league. Not switched on enough, not composed enough and prone to making poor decisions that invariably get punished. I wish I had more faith in our ability to recruit a suitable replacement, but we have bought horribly in defensive positions for years.

Not a problem. There was a solid 30 minute stretch where I thought he was phenomenal but you guys were right and I was clearly wrong. Too many major mistakes, too frequently and I'm not sure it's going to change.

he is a cabbage. Simply cannot defend in a system. A nightmare to partner. I've been saying it since he's signed. A selfish defender.

He needs to be shown the door with a big boot up the arse.

Pep didn't even give Mangala the chance. He got rid of him and for some strange reason kept Kolarov and Ota. Did the same to Hart. Pep got it all wrong. Mangala was bad with the ball but at least he knew something about DEFENDING.

I'd get Tosin in there now. He'd make a similar amount of mistakes to Otamendi while he learns his trade, but at least he'll learn and has size, and pace. Otamendi is as slow as a mule carrying two mules.

Mangala isn't the Kompany type of the defender BUT assign him a player to man mark and he would never disappoint you. Mangala was a far better defender, he had strength, aerial advantage and was very athletic. Ota is just another Kolarov, they look scary but are actually wimps.

That's the issue with him.

He never sticks to his position and just runs out leaving the rest of the defenders to deal with it.
