Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

It's not really about me or my opinion, or whether I like it or not, Pep has made it really clear himself:

“I don’t like it when central defenders go down on the pitch. I don’t know about last season because I wasn’t here, but we are here to get him better."

Speaking about Otamendi in August. If he carries on diving into tackles, he'll be out the door.

So far I don't see him any more restrained than he was last season. For the first few weeks he was, but it's reverted to normal since September.

Genuinely believe he is the bestdefender we have avail atm, and also believe we will see him here next season

Puyol was 10x the defender Otamendi will ever be, and when he did last-gasp stuff it was because it genuinely had to be done, not because he couldn't resist.

Puyol was, at his peak, the best all round defender in the world.

He continues to be a liability, his faults are just masked when we win.... He's a crowd pleaser in that he'll launch in to one of his Ryu kicks, however, he misses them too often and exposes the defensive line... I like the guys effort and he should be retained for the squad but a starter he should never be!!

Hard to be sure but I think he makes some tackles that very few defenders would pull off; whether they make up for his reckless moments is debatable but my greater concern is that he can be a bit of a pansy.

Agree he should be a squad player and that we need calmer heads in our back four.

He had a great game yesterday. A reverse pass will often catch most defenders looking the wrong way.
Should we be getting rid of Kun and Kev also because they cost us goals also?

Pretty absurd really...very good game and still getting slagged off. This guy can't win. Take a look at our results when he misses games. Miles ahead of any CB we have and he STILL gets disrespected after a good performance vs a top side while surrounded by three (average, ahem) fullbacks for a defense! Come on now.

Surrounded by Zaba, Sagna, Clichy, Kolarov, Yaya!, and Fernando and they have 1 shot on target and you guys have issues! Crazy!
