Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

He played well last night,he didnt give an inch and he took no prisoners. So,while he deserves huge credit, the presence of Kompany also has to taken into consideration - the man is awesome and he will bring out the best in any defense, his character and influence cannot be understated.

Another commanding performance from Ota last night. Him and Vinnie are solid and if Vinnie stays fit, John needs to hope for a three at the back system next season otherwise he may find it difficult to claim a stsrting spot

That puts the debate to bed, vinny calms him and covers him,a great partnership

I think that they both like to defend on the front foot and there seems to be a mutual understanding about that. Otamendi got beaten by a neat flick by Rashford last night and Vinnie had already spotted the danger before he took the touch and was there to sweep up.

As a regular critic I think it's only fair for me to mention that Otamendi has been in brilliant form recently. Reminds me of Ricardo Carvalho.

My view on that is that he does for positional sense, but Ota still does the tackling & heading - which he excels at without help.
Watching from my seat which is on the third tier you get to appreciate what the two bring to each other's game. Of course there will be still mistakes made but it's hard not to be reassured when they are both in sync.

He's a bit jekyll & hyde for me, front foot high-risk high-reward defender, arguably similar to KdB going the other way. When he's good he's fantastic & wins a silly amount of tackles/headers, but when he's bad it can look pretty shambolic.

For what it's worth I quite rate him, think he has many more good games than poor ones, but his style makes him prone to the abuse he seems to get - people like to remember the bad rather than the good.

Just read Andy Dunn's player ratings in the Mirror, apparently Ota was given a "torid time by Rashford, and won't want to face the teenager again"

They say football is about opinion's, but I can only think Andy Dunn doesn't realise other people actually saw the game.

Wasnt Rashford substituted after about 20mins?

Rashford did tbf! but Otamendi makes it easy especially for players like him, by diving into challenges far too recklessly

I don't think Dax likes people rightly pointing out that Kompany helps his game..
Rightly? Was this Ota' S best game this year? No. Was it his 2nd best? No. Was it his 3rd best game? No. Did Kompany participate on any of those 3? No.

So why is a random good game then ascribed to Kompany's presence? It simply isn't logical to come to that conclusion.

Like I have been saying forever, Its play very good games 4 out of every 5. Regardless of his partner.

So why has one average game and one good one ssuddenly been ascribed to Kompany? As if this was not the norm for the player.

Yes both Its and Kompany were very good against the Rags. But this is not proof Kompany was why he was good.

I could equally make the false claim that Ota's presence made Komps better. Both notions are silly.
