Lol. Ok mate. You are right. He was shit before but now he is good.

And as usual, you have the single situation evidence to prove it ;)

@Neville Kneville

Marti Perarnau is very close to Pep, and he said Guardiola and his staff have been completely amazed by how much Otamendi has improved this season, and that it's the most extreme improvement they've seen in 10 years managing.

I have no reason to doubt why Guardiola's friend and reliable journalist/author would lie about that...so it sounds like Guardiola and the staff disagree with you Dax.

His first season, the last one under Pellegrini, i don't blame any players playing badly really (in hindsight). The team was a bit of a mess, lacking motivation, coaching etc, just getting by on talent and moments of quality.

Last season, you could see he was working on his game, but till struggled often when exposed (our press wasn't as co-ordinated, slow full-backs, Bravo giving everyone the jitters etc), making rash decisions and over-committing at times.

Now everything's come together with the team, and you see what all our individuals are capable of. He's been fantastic, full of confidence and a key player
.
This here is the key. Yes he has improved. But he was always very good. The real difference now is that their are fewer situations where he could mess up because everyone else is doing their jobs.

The very things he did in the first 2 years that made many incorrectly conclude he was bad are still there. Folks just don't highlight it anymore because they've now changed their subjective opinion on his talent.

Still misses headers at inopportune times (see United), still isn't fast (See footrace Everton and Bournemouth) Still jumps out of the backline to try to snuff an attack before it starts (see every game this season.)

There are a few major difference this season. We possess the ball more, so there are fewer opposing actions to deal with.

Debryune, Silva, Aguero, Sterling and Sane have all stepped up their defensive intensity. That press is stifling attacks often before they start.

There is a Goalie behind him that cuts the playing space by half with his Sweeper/Keeper style.

All these factors have helped simply to highlight what he has always done well. Tackle well, pass well, and always showing up wearing his heart on his sleeve.

Yes, he is better, everyone on the team is. But more so than him, it the opinions of 'the pundits' and by extension 'the fans' that has done the most improving ;)

The facts don't lie. They just don't. But ok. Let the opinion folks keep it up

Lol. I'm going to take Guardiola and his staff's opinion over your half-baked stats, but thanks.
I'll take Guardiola opinion too. But I didn't here Guardiola's opinion. You gave the opinion of some guy named Peramau. Yeah, I'm not taking his color commentary on what he thinks Guardiola thinks.

Hahahaha do yourself a favour and look up who Marti Perarnau is then, and when you realise he's as reliable a source to Pep's thinking that exists outside the man himself, maybe you'll stop acting like a tit.

I mean obviously the last part us wishful thinking but at least you'll know you're assessment of Otamendi is at odds with our manager's.

It's apparently at offs with Pep's statement on Ota too... Hmmm interesting that.

Otamendi was always very good but not like this year. Otamendi last year was worse than Boateng before Pep turn Boateng into world class. But this season’s Otamendi has been something else. Boateng at his prime has a better long ball than Otamendi but that’s pretty much it, Otamendi wins at everything else.

Otamendi before Pep < Boateng before Pep < Boateng after Pep < Otamendi this year.

That’s why I think Pep said Otamendi’s improvement is the biggest he’s ever seen. Boateng pre-Pep was a much better player than Otamendi pre-Pep. But Otamendi post-Pep is arguably better than Boateng post-Pep.
