This doesn't look like a good move for us and the fee being bandied about is very poor, even for a guy with a year left on his contract. De Jong wouldn't sign a new contract though and we need total commitment. Failure to replace him adequately will be the real sin.

Sinclair's in the last year of his contract and we're stumping up 8 million.

Johnson left for 10 million with 2 years to run on his contract.

We gave Everton anything from 12-15 million for Rodwell.

And it appears De Jong will be leaving for as little as 3 million.

It isn't hard to see why Marwood comes in for some stick.

Somewhere Sabster and blueplan are having a party.

I have nothing against him.

The only thing I was against was his portrayal as some sort of ultimate don and as one of the best DMs in the world (of which he is not even close). He could have been useful this season but very very rarely he will suit italian football.

I quoted the fees as I knew them.

So in essence you want to keep a player who won't sign a new contract, and a player who wants to leave so he can get regular game time. Hardly inspires good morale

I'd rather have got another year out of De Jong than sell him for peanuts, Rodwell aint ready to step into De Jong's shoes I'm afraid.

As someone else said, i suppose the real sin is in not adequately replacing these players, if they have to go then yeh fair play, but the replacements haven't inspired me at all.

It's dead easy spending other people's money tho

Say what?

no, no that wasn't him, that was brian marwood

Re: Nigel De Jong

As I was tweeting to Castles earlier, financial wise, we are not making a 'massive' loss on NDJ. amoritization wise, we lose a little under a million on his value.

It hurts the team especially if no midfielder is brought in tomorrow, but financially it is not a huge hit.

Re: Nigel De Jong

No matter what people think of De Jong's shortcomings, Rodwell is not better than him. There are certain games where a player of De Jong's ilk is crucial.

I simply cannot believe we don't have someone lined up. If not, then I believe we have come out the summer weaker then at the start of the window, and that would be an absolute joke considering we won the league.

so it makes sense to take £3M when someone is worth £10M? makes no bleeding sense to me at all

Re: Nigel De Jong

Farewell Nigel. Sad to see him go but I'm sure he'll be ecstatic about a move to one of Europes finest ever clubs

Are you in sales by any chance

Re: Nigel De Jong

So we sell Nige for 3.5 Mill and if we get De Rossi (an older player)replace at 10 times the value. How does that make sense?

Gutted to see him go,well done Milan.

Wish the club would come out and explain this one.
