Nike to make Kits

I felt a slight twinge of something resembling sadness at this when I first read it. We have a long history with Umbro although it would be even longer if they hadn't got greedy and forgotten where they came from in the nineties, but I'm a very forgiving sole so that's all in the past as far as I'm concerned.

That said, they are a global brand that is part of the Nike family in any event, so it's hardly a time for misty eyed sentimentality.

This deal represents another stage in the evolution of this football club. This will be as big a deal to Nike as it is to us, which speaks for itself.

This football club is going to continue on an upward trajectory until it stands shoulder to shoulder with the big names in the sport. The days of laughing at our gaffe prone Chief Excecutve, our naive forrays into the transfer market and our tendency for self-destruction both on and off the pitch are drawing to a close. Make no mistake, fans of other clubs are finally waking up to the reality of the seriousness of the 'project'. We are becoming a force to be feared in the game of football and I, for one, am loving every fucking minute of it.

It just proves how incompetant Garry Cook was, couldn't even bag us a deal with his ex empoloyees when at the club how embarrassing.

Am I about to get Clarkied here? He got us an amazing one with Umbro, probably knew about the merger with Nike and saw that it would be a great place to start being a Manchester brand.

More than just one sponsorship deal happening at City, Nike is the start! Another biggie on it's way very soon!

Are we sponsoring the training gear like the rags?

With the announcement of the Nike Deal, would this mean a possible preference towards players who have Nike Deals themselves...

I mean would the club/nike want a big Adidas posterboy involved with the club?

Just a thought....

What? Like Ronaldo (Nike) at Real (Adidas) and Messi (Adidas) at Barca (Nike)?

We have signed a double deal with Gregg's and Wilkinsons.

Disappointed to be losing the quality kits Umbro have done for us but I suppose this is necessary if we're going to pass FFP. Also a logical move if you think about it, with Umbro being owned by Nike they were always going to come after us when it really got going.

It it me or do all Nike kits seem to be synthetic looking pieces of shite! - At least the Umbro kits look like their made of a decent material.

Yep they are all made to a similar template.

For me the interesting part of this deal is the quote by City about R&D facilities. These don't strike me as something vital for football shirt deals over another company.

It could be our arrangement with Nike might have something to do with the Etihad campus, given the date this deal comes online and the estimated build time of the site?

Didn't we make use of Nike R&D facilities (training, medical etc.) on the tour of the US last year?

Perhaps a broader, strategic link up beckons?
