father dougal magaylord are you on your period or somehting why do you keep whingeing about evrything?

You can't expect our academy to produce a bunch of world class players from only local lads

Zander hasn't played a senior match for Shalke or us, why are we using him to have a go at our academy.

Just as some would claim Rossi as a product of the rags academy, I would claim Ireland as a product of ours, and Messi (13) as a product of Barca's.

I am not having a go at our academy on it's own, i am having a go at the academy system in England. What is the point in having U7 and U8 sides if at 16 they are not good enough and you have to search elsewhere for someone better.

The whole thing stinks. Are you saying to me that Greater Manchester (around 2.5m people) and the surrounding areas of the North West cannot produce a footballer that is good enough to play top class domestic and european football? It is just lazy. A football club as big as us and the likes of the Premier League should be producing Rooney's and Wilshere's more often.

Anyway welcome Nils Zander, sorry about the hostile recpetion, i am experiencing hugh period pains!! ;-)

Why do we have to buy 16 year old left backs from Germany when we have a "top class, world class, universe class academy"?

Yea true. All the best young players in the world should already be in our academy

Sack Cassell

Why can Schalke produce one of the supposedly "best young players in the world" and we can't? This applies to every English sides academy, the whole system stinks.

Are you still marding it up because Hughes didn't get sacked...

Your posts in the last week are slowly descending into the ramblings of a very bitter young man...

Wow Billy Shears, just Wow! I am astounded that you have somehow managed to bring up Hughes in a thread that has nothing to do with him. Is this the new tactic of the Hughes Inners?

LOL at father macgaylord. World Class players don't come along very often, you can't expect our academy to be churning them out. Look at Arsenal's academy, i bet 90% of it is made up from kids poached from other clubs by Wenger, and even he struggles to make them World Class. Fabregas is the exception, and maybe Wilshere who looks the dog's bollocks. You can't expect us to even produce kid after kid who is good enough for the Prem from just kids in the North West. Our academy is top class, down to every detail, it's one of the best in the World, you even get fined £5 for swearing around the complex. If we need to poach youngsters from oter clubs who have great potential then so be it, everyone else does it

Haha, fair do's.

Although I don't think that scouring the continet for the best young talent should be described as lazy, I think you're underestimating how competetive the sport of football really is.

He's only one player, not even the only left back at the academy.

I've been rumbed...;- )

Although to be fair, I am certainly not a Hughes Inner (funny, that phrase makes me think of belly buttons...random or what).

I'm just more accepting than others...

I mean it's not like we're broke and stuck with another season of Pearce, Wardle, and Mackintoss...!

Who said anything about world class? i am talking top class players who play at the highest level. Your example with Arsenal is bollocks because it is an English academy. Ajax is the best example of local kids going to an academy between 6 and 10 years old and being thrust onto the world stage at 18 and playing at the highest level for years and years. They do it every year. The only club who has ever come close to that in England since the academy system started in 98 was West Ham with Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Carrick, Lampard ect.

"Our academy is.....it's one of the best in the World"

HA, do you really beleive that?? Willo Flood, Stephen Jordan, leon Mike, Chris Killen, Kelvin Etuhu, Sam Williamson are really something to be proud of, aren't they? that and being fined £5 for swearing doesn't make it one of the best in the world.

I think it is lazy when you go and poach another clubs player at 16, when that club has put all the time and effort into making him the player he is.
It's like spending years coming up with a great prodcut only for some big shot company to come in and steal the idea. That to me is lazy.

It's very easy and lazy to get on a plane and go around the world flashing money in young 15 and 16 year olds faces and then put them in your youth team and claim to have produced them. Not being lazy would be bringing through a top class player thanks to years and years of paitence and hard work.

You have your opinion on Hughes, i have mine. If you want to discuss it in another thread then great but this is a thread on Nils Zander. Leave that clueless, sparkless fool out of this thread ;-)

I'm fairly neutral about Hughes, but he seriously needs to re-think his strategy about the Academy set up, cause JC is very likely to leave in the next few months.
