Ridiculous notion. It wasn't the car, it was the drivers irresponsibilitythe parents who bought him a BMW as his first car should serve time too I'm afraid! who in their right mind does that?

They all seemed to be enjoying themselves so I wouldn't blame it just on him.
Far too high for it to be that!Thought this was going to be about the average mental age on here.
But the alarms are so bloody annoying that disabling them makes sense if you don't wear them.If they were determined not to wear seat belts, I'm not sure the warning alarm would convince them to.
I wear a seat belt all the time, if only to shut the bloody annoying "beep beep beep" up!
A dancer in Mamma Mia the musical?I don't understand why anyone wouldn't wear a seatbelt. Are people that determined to be "cool".
A guy I knew in school wouldn't wear a helmet on his motorbike because he said it was "gay", you can probably guess how that ended up
Did he move to Brighton & live with a bloke called Nigel & a poodle called Fifi?I don't understand why anyone wouldn't wear a seatbelt. Are people that determined to be "cool".

Technically, it's nine years per victim, but the sentences are to run concurrently. So, yeah; in effect, what you said. Why they couldn't be consecutive sentences, which would be a more suitable sentence, is a mystery to me.
I wasn't necessarily saying he should have got 27 years (murderers get less than that) though it does read like that, to be fair. What I am saying is that he should have got substantially longer than 9 years (likely to be out in 6). Sentences are supposed to be, among other things, a punishment. And isn't the punishment supposed to fit the crime? 9 years for killing three kids (irrespective of whether they were having a good time or not, and were apparently in the car of their own free will) doesn't seem to be a fitting punishment. Not to me, anyway. In this scenario I'm not sure 27 years behind bars does any good for society either. Just end up with a 46 year old who can offer society nothing.
Hard picking what the appropriate punishment/rehabilitation should be though.
Banned from driving for life, education courses on the impact of his actions whilst behind bars and then there should be a minimum number of hours community service every week for the rest of his life. I think all would be appropriate.
