Nitrous Oxide cannisters to be banned?

Classifying it under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 is not going to be easy to enforce. Presumably there will be exemptions, like with heroin, but there’s a world of difference between a doctor and a barista in terms of regulated activity.

That said, something had to be done, if for no other reason than the anti-social nature of the byproduct of its use.

It’s more than 50% if you ask me. The Blair gov created about 8,000 specific offences but their legislation is rarely used by prosecutors. Politicians talk about laws which “send a message” but that is not what legislation is for.
Spot-on. Existing laws are not enforced and never will be. The councils have no staff to chase vandals and flytippers. More than 96 per cent of rape cases don’t result in convictions. Even the most serious cases take years to get to court. What we are seeing now from our politicians is total madness. The public are not that stupid.

It must be regional, my wife and I couldn't get any canisters last night for our take home treat, so we had to go back on the Whiz. Apparently all the good gears down in Lytham with no direct trams. Blackpool's dear enough without all this nonsense.

Another absurd publicity stunt by the Government against the advice of their own experts. The police prosecute less than 1 per cent of fraud investigations. In my area there is no police station and zero police presence. They don't investigate burglaries and don't enforce existing drugs legislation. They don't have the time or resources. They don't even turn out for street robberies. This Government are treating the public like idiots. The Westminster elite are living in a parallel universe.
I wonder which out of touch coke sniffing toff has come up with this shit? Heroin and crack use has been on the rise yet they come out with this bollox to appease the voters in suburbia

Introduce 10p rebate for every cannister at a recycling plant, like many countries do with glass bottles, and you'd clear up the litter problem from spent cartridges overnight for what I would imagine will be <1% of the cost of passing and enforcing this law.

The thing is, the public are precisely that stupid.

Watch Sunak get a bump in the polls in the next few weeks.
