No leadership on the pitch

joe hart a leader? are you high?

I honestly believe if there is any bad blood in the dressing room then Joe Hart and Yaya would be the prime candidates and also a player that could have contributed to bad blood against mancini.

A player that has underperformed largely for 3 years, doesn't improve (or believe) he has any weaknesses and pisses himself when he fucks up and is mr friendly friendly with ANY opposition player; mostly our most hated rivals. I'd rather be bearing down on goal in front of Hart that most keepers. I would expect him to come out starfish; I would meg him, score and then probably get a hug afterwards....

Wow, bitter or what??

My go to captain after Vinny, would be Zabba every time. I think the guy would be a great leader, and shares the passion and desire, that us fans do. How Yaya is considered over him baffles me, for me Zabba is just the man, to drag a faltering side, over the line.

Agreed, zabba just leads perfectly by example and considering his first season has just been a revelation! City REALLY better have him tied to future work at the club.

But as a squad we are still a long way away from having the kind of mentality you see at other top sides across Europe

I agree with most of your summary and this point in particular. It's been missing for some time and I believe someone like Steve the Chimp could help a lot in establishing a better and more ruthless winning mentality in this group of players.

Most of this squad has won the league in 2 of the last 3 seasons. Can't really agree with the notion that this squad lacks in leadership or a strong mentality.

There's something else not quite right but it's not the players lacking in leadership or winning mentality.

I think we may be lacking a bit of aggression personally. In some of these matches I've walked away thinking had we still had Negredo then maybe we'd have performed better as a team. It wouldn't surprise me if Pellers has been playing Dzeko up top along side Aguero in the hope the Dzeko will deliver what Negredo did. What Negredo lacked in finesse he made up for with sheer brute strength, he along with Vincent & Zabba were the players that acted like warriors in most games, harassing and bullying opposing players.

We all know that Edin is never going to be that way, far too soft and seems to sulk during a game if things aren't going for him.

I do however think that Yaya is a totally separate case, his mentality in my opinion may well be weak or lacking in desire at this moment in time. How you can go from last seasons performances to what we're seeing now from him is a huge cause for concern. His seemingly lack of interest will affect the whole 11 on the pitch so the sooner Pellers grows a pair and looks to plan a starting 11 without Yaya in it (in his current form), the better, the only other option to try to spark a reaction out of Yaya is to play him in a forward role like last season.

That leads me onto the manager, who I don't believe has the character to decide to drop one of our top performers of last season. He's "holistic" and that's the approach the blokes that hired him wanted.

He's certainly anything other than aggressive from what I've seen, you very rarely see him getting animated on the side of the pitch or directing a player to do something that he wants. Now and again a little aggression can be very positive and I'd like to see Pellers install a bit of it into our players now and then.

Whilst I understand that a captain has more responsibility to drag his team through the mire and possess leadership qualities that not every member of the squad may have, I want to see majority, if not, all of the 11 men on the field of play try to take the match by the scruff of the neck if our performance is teetering towards useless. Be it through aggression, tempo, urgency, communication or passion; I feel every player has a responsibility to do their bit. If they have to rely on the captain of the team when the shits on the stick then they are struggling to cope with what it is to play for themselves, the team and the supporters.

The captain of the team should lead by example regardless, and if he's giving a half arsed effort then it should be a chance for someone else to step up and show us what they're made of, not to follow their lethargy.

Do Barca have great leaders in their team?

Iniesta? Xavi? Mascherano? Bravo? Not even mentioning Messi. If Messi plays he is guaranteed Captaincy, but these players act as leaders in their respective positions, and I would sooner have any of them leading a team over Yaya at the moment.
