Fair dos. It's interesting if you look at the stats ( before anyone starts I know they're not the be all and end all ), he made the same amount of successful tackles, interceptions and clearances as Fernandinho.
Here's my original post
We went from 3 in midfield at villa.Delphi and 2fernandos, to 1 at Sunderland. They put an extra man in midfield to boss it. Simple tactics by big Sam, yet we didn't adapt.
We play our way, and never take into account the opposition. Yaya should be coming on late in games, in the dying embers, when opposition are tired.
I agree apart from the higher up the pitch bit. What happened when we pushed him further up last night? He was completely ineffective, a number of our attacks broke down because of him and at the same time we lost all composure when trying to play the ball out from the back because we didn't have Yaya there to act as the conduit.
For me what should've happened when Fernando came on is Fernandinho should've been pushed further up with Yaya left deeper to play the role he's best suited to.
Pellegrini mainly plays 4-2-2-2 even when people think we are playing 4231 etc, it still ends up with someone effectively playing as a 2nd striker behind/around Aguero, the difference being, that this season he has tended to mainly use a midfielder or Sterling in that role. So rather than change shape, he put Yaya there & he stank the place out.
I agree he would have been better played deeper but he would have been better still, watching from the stand.
You think he was poor first half when playing his best position?
