No Yaya in the team...

OB1, Millwallawayveteran1988 and a few others would probably defend Yaya in court dispute video evidence of him driving at 102mph so there's no point in trying to debate with them.

The majority of us know that Yaya's days have been and gone, sadly. Fernandinho and Delph offer far more in every game situation unless we're at home playing against 'park the bus' tactics from the dross at the bottom of the league.

Far goals: no
Far more shots: no
Far more assists: no
Far more passes: no
Far more balls recovered: no
Far more key passes: no

Well, not even more of those particular aspects of the game.

Delph just about makes more tackles and interceptions; and Dinho does make far more tackles than both of them. And, of course, Delph and Dinho make lots more sprints.

You are right it is not worth debating with people like me who like facts so let's just see what happens in the rest of the season.

I really can't believe how blinkered you are being, yaya has been a tremendous player, one of the best box to box midfielders I have had the pleasure to see, especially modern day, but he is past it, we lose complete balance in the team when he plays, other players are stretched far too much. I will be absolutely surprised If he is a regular starter next season, his engine is knackered and needs a total overall (overall being a more mundane league that doesn't require the same intensity)

So Delph makes more tackles and interceptions, Fernandinho makes far more tackles than both of them - yet Yaya makes more ball recoveries - make your bastardwell mind up son.

I'm not the least bit blinkered: I know exactly what Yaya's strengths and weaknesses are and what he does and doesn't bring to the team. I am also well aware that he is on the wane, which is why I was desperate for us to sign Pogba last summer and have him progressively takeover from Yaya this season. I just don't happen to think he is as spent as some do.

I think we would get a much more effective Yaya if Pellegrini uses him as an attacking CM for the last 30mins or so off the bench

Nail on the head , this is no reflection on what Yaya has contributed to our success , but all good things come to an end , he cannot compete for 90 minutes in the Premier League with opponents like Leicester ,Dippers,Spuds, etc employing a high pressing game. Still a big part of the squad and capable of scoring and creating vital match winning goals.

In regards opposition using a high press, is it not more beneficial to have your technically more proficient players to counter this? The way to beat the press is by passing your way out of it, no?

Fwiw I don't think we look all that more solid defensively when Yaya is not on the pitch but I do think we lose a certain amount of control in general when he isn't.
