Nobby Stiles RIP

I love the quote about when England were playing Portugal and Alf Ramsey asked Nobby to take him out of the game.
Nobby replied “ Just this game, or for good?”
A proper character, Mancunian and legend of the game.
RIP Nobby.

Also slang for hemorrhoids.

Met Nobby at a football after dinner type do at bigwigs in Audenshaw about 20 years ago, top guy and took daft questions of us blues in there with a laugh, all the reds were asking him questions about European cups etc, and we were shite at the time only went for the craic, and we asked him stuff like” Hi Nobby, in your opinion is the cheetah or jaguar the fastest animal on four legs?” Top man. Top Manc. RIP

Yea,some players like the ones you've mentioned come into that category as respected regardless of who they played for.
Id imagine Brian Kidd is another one up your way, who's liked and respected by blue and red sides of Manchester.
Nobby Stiles came down our way to do an after dinner speaking night, about 25 years ago.
He was an absolute gentleman, and a funny guy with it.Completely down to earth, signed autographs and had time for everyone.
So sad to hear he'd struggled last few years with dementia.
RIP Nobby
Believe it or not, Kiddo was labelled a "Judas" by some rags because he had the audacity to join City's coaching staff.

I was in primary school with one of Nobby's lads when he was manager at PNE. Whenever we saw Nobby we were in awe of him knowing what he had achieved as a player even though half of us were Blue and the other half were rags. He was a real gent and highly regarded. He'd been suffering for many years and his family had had little / none support from those outside where it might have been expected ... The FA? The PFA? Un#t%d?? - all should be asking themselves questions about their lack of interest when it was needed but all you'll hear is their platitudes now that he has gone. He'll be missed by so many whichever side of the divide we are on.

Heard a good one where Busby had to ring Nobby's missus and tell her he'd been injured and would be home next day."He'll be coming home with a broken leg" says Busby. "Oh" says Mrs. Nobby, "who's is it".
