Your battery is fucked squire. These things burn out pretty quick. What you are describing is the beginning of the end it sounds like. How old is the battery on it? If it is knocking on 2 years or more along with decent usage you probably need to be looking at a new battery.

I believe you hit, what in the trade is called, the "maximum calorific volume." A lot of electric bikes come with this problem built in as standard. Your normal primary units appear to have a self correcting volume which, on this occasion, has overloaded the modular capabilities of the bike. This upsets the incremental capability leading to transitional projections thus causing your bike to conk out.

It sounds freakish but the tops of the coffee capsules probably formed what's known as a "phased array antenna" that focussed the traction beam the aliens use to captue people on to the electronics and interfered with the bikes performance.
You'll never know for sure if you've been "probed", because they wipe your memory, but there are a couple of give aways:

Is there any missing time? For example did your wife comment that it had taken you longer than normal to make the round trip?
Did you have any pain or tightness in your buttocks or thighs afterwards?
Do you feel as though something important has happened but no one seems to take you seriously?
