Noel Gallagher

With regards to the "freeloading", you can guarantee one thing: City will not be giving him free tickets. People buy executive boxes and seats, at enormous cost, for them to pass on to people of their choice. A guy like Gallagher will be able to pick up the phone to the record company and get two seats in the corporate area of any ground in the world, for any game. But someone will be paying £500 for that ticket. That's how it works.

There are people the world over want to ingratiate themselves to people like him, Alan McGee, Mike Pickering etc. Pluggers, promotors, other labels, radio stations, management companies, agents etc etc. And they can return the favour easily for gigs, clubs, events etc.

Ultimately if these companies and individuals weren't paying £500 per ticket, you'd be paying double.

Priceless, a multi millionaire, who admits to freeloading into matches gets arcy about hard up working class city fans not being able to afford to attend every match.

Did you even watch the video? If so, can you tell me where Noel gets 'arcy' (sic)? He simply stated he thought we might have problems filling an expanded stadium, and unless there is a notable drop in ticket prices planned (and I'm pretty certain there won't be, for reasons previously stated), it's not an unreasonable supposition based on the number of empties we see at many City games currently

Didn't he also say that the people in charge know what they're doing so will have something in mind to ensure it's full, or something along those lines.

It wasn't as if he was agreeing with camel gob or the ginger dwarf!!

Right, this is for the whizz kids on here..
I've been trying to watch noels interview on on demand/catch up but no joy can't find it....
Could anybody put it on here so I can watch it please..?

I'd agree with every aspect of that, bar the last line.
Of course, there's a logic that says the £500.00 tickets / corporate are helping to subsidise the cost of regular tickets.
But there's also an argument that if nobody was buying the corporate tickets, it would drive down the cost of regular tickets, as the product isn't well sought after and there'd be no examples of premium prices. Depends at how you look at the market.
You're suggesting City want to make X million from matchday tickets, and if the money doesn't come from the corporates, it will have to come from us. I'd argue that if it's not coming from the corporates it won't be coming from us either!

Only thing I disagreed with was the comment that if the demand was there for the extra seats there'd be a queue of people trying to get in.

Apart from there being quite a large queue of people that have paid a deposit on a season ticket it shows a lack of understanding why there isnt a large queue of people unable to get in.

Couldnt care less how many games he goes to and how much he pays.

Its on Catch up under Sky Sports in Football then Premier league under Man City. Its also got the extended Zab and Di Maria interview where Zab starts taking the piss when asked if they would go easy on each other because of knowing each other off the pitch.

I can assure you that this has most definately been the case on numerous previous occasions, I can even confirm that it has happened for European aways (Not so sure it does anymore since Liam's antics at Real Madrid, which was on freebies from the club)

I understand your point mate. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation. But as it stands the clubs have a wage bill to pay and someone has to pay it.

Your argument is that if no one bought premium tickets in the first place wages would be lower. That's true, marginally. Tv is where the real money would come from, regardless.

Aye, it's very chicken and egg, and as you say, TV (at the moment) is where the lion's share of revenue comes from for most clubs. But still, matchday revenue is a nice slice of the overall pie and an extra 5-10 million still makes a difference.
When it comes to bang for your buck (from the club's perspective), a box brings in far more money per sq ft than the seats do. In a way, it's us sitting fans that hold back the corporate expansion! ;-)

I saw that response too.

A dizzying lack of comprehension as to what was actuslly said, but it didn't stop him giving a bitter, jealous and resentful "reply" anyway.

Classic forum stuff. I always imagine the human version of an angry fat frog in some scuddy little spunk-smelling bedroom when I read stuff like that.

Haha the super fans who feel great defending Noël from being called a freeloader.

Noel revels in being a freeloader as evidenced by what he comes out with on Talkshite e.g. Getting pissed in the free lager tent at the Champs League final.

Time for someone's meds

Noel couldn't give a fuck what the great unwashed think of him. Y'know why? Because he thinks just like anyone else who came from nothing, and became something. He deserves to be where he is. And that includes free match day tickets for life. Who the fuck kept City's flag flying all over the world whilst we toiled in the lower leagues? It wasn't the real freeloaders that you see these days in the executive boxes. It was guys like Liam and Noel, bands like Oasis, who were there when we were shit.

So yeah, he's entitled to his freebie. I can't imagine the amount City merch that has been sold outside England in the last 20 years on the back of the free marketing Oasis gave the club.

I seem to recall 30,000 Blues in the third division and local business people who made good that saved the Club.

I am an Oasis fan too but I am afraid they haven't sold that many records in the last 20 years, never mind City shirts!

As celebrity City fans go, I'd say he gives a fairly decent representation of the typical City fan... always a tad cautious of false dawns and impending cock-ups. I don't share all his views, I doubt anybody does, but he doesn't make people cringe with his comments, doesn't come across as a 'full of it' City fan, and still seems to be aware of who we actually played last week, and who is up next etc (that a lot of celeb fans clearly don't).

As for freeloading, it comes with the celebrity status. That's just how it is. All these celebs who sit with the 'normal fans' - they rarely struggle for tickets and don't like the real fan experience, regardless of where they sit. They aren't figuring out how which matches they can afford to attend, or if they can afford another season ticket. You can't blame him for his wealth and fame... and I'm damn sure he screams 'get in!' just the same way we do when Aguero scores.

Some celeb fans will be saying 'which one is Aguero? - he's my fave'.

Good post Fanchester

Oh dear Tim of the Oak - dismantling statements down to their core meaning and being analytical will get you into trouble.

At no point do you criticise Noel, you simply note the irony, and yet you get all this flack. Easy to put backs up and send the afronted scurrying to their keyboards without thinking.

Thanks very much Gaudino Motors.

For the benefit of Dismal's crew (including people from Exeter who first heard of Manchester because of Oasis) yes I would happily have shared a few freeloading pints in the lager tent with Norl at the Champs League final. I would prefer them to offer cider as well but you can't have it all!

Was that when you were selling your tickets on Vianogo!

Sorry Tim, that made me chuckle though. Nearly but not quite as funny as the time he quoted Nijinskys Fetlocks who had asked him to calm down, it's just a forum.. Then quoted the angriest response just a few posts later accompanied by a picture of a child pointing and laughing at another one.

Classic forum stuff.

Oh dear, the old "if he doesn't come from Manchester, he must be a nouveau fan" shtick. If you'd said The Hollies you might have had a case mind. I think this was riding high in the charts when I first started supporting City. How about you Timmy?
