NON-Pro cycling

I have Coast to Coast this weekend, did in two days last year, pretty hard work and weather one day was pretty grim, however been talked into a one day assault this time out, 135 miles @ 12000 ft climbing, I am not looking forward to it one little bit.

Sound great, can I come?

As for the numb balls it's a bit like saddle sores, you get used to it after a bit and it doesn't cause problems after a while. If I do go on a long ride, 100m+, then I get it. You could stick a pin down there and I wouldn't feel it. All part of the experience!!

I wouldn't be too envious! Trouble is its like a roller coaster for the first 100 miles with no flat sections where you can chill out, it's either balls out climbing or edgy descents, Consett will be where the pain hits as there are a couple of spiteful digs which your legs don't need after 90 odd miles, I will of course enjoy it but very apprehensive at the moment.

Never had any issues round the gonads but saying that I am big advocate of paying as much as you can for bib shorts the money paid for comfort is worth every penny. At least the forecast for the weekend is looking decent which will help.

I actually prefer the shorts to the full bibs.but good advice given tho...Im just thinking about clipping up on the pedals..my brainwave is to buy the pedals which are flat on one side and cleated on the other, the first few trips out i can clip one side up and can still have the added knowledge of if need be i can prop myself up once in a stationary position.

treat yourself to a brooks saddle with titanium rails and a seatpost with slight layback (layback incorporated in the saddle attachment area opposed to layback dogsleg style in the seatpost design (Thompson for example)

I wouldn't bother as the flat side is crap, no grip, I got some with my new mountain bike and sold them on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181163638024?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649. Either clip in or don't but the flat part is useless imo. I was going to buy some new shoes and start clipping in but tbh I bottled it, its not for me.

yeah that's what I got but off mates who are road cyclist, personally when I'm tear arsing down a uneven hill at 30 mph if I need to I want to get my feet on the ground asap, most mountain bikers I know use good quality flats. I know I'm going a bit off topic here btw.
