North Stand Construction Discussion

I’ve enlarged and screen grabbed 2 pictures.

The quality of the pictures is a little bit grainy.

It’s easy to forget sometimes just how good the Etihad is - a really fantastic stadium.

Agreed. The only thing I would say is that the exterior of the stadium is very grey. More blue would be nice. But yes, it's a fantastic stadium. When the North Stand is completed along with the hotel and the adjacent building, it'll look the canine's testes.

I am interested in the commercial synergies for MCFC but I don't think they are as large as imagined as City are not operating these businesses directly. I would have liked City to explore a new stadium in Manchester. The addition of 7,910 seats, current capacity of 52,600, and the proposed capacity of 61,958 implies that a significant amount of seating is currently out of commission.

If I were promoting the infrastructure spend, I would consider what the area once was, and what it will become.

there's always two figures for capacity, absolute and usable - the difference includes things like unused seats to create segregation areas around away fans and blocking off front rows seats in upper tiers to prevent away (mostly dipper) fans raining coins on home fans!

61,958 Gross, 61,474 Net according to the Design & Access submission.

Say we extended the East Stand, didn’t bother adding a hotel, fanzone, shop etc just extended the stand and replaced the roof. How long would it take to do?

Was it ever ???

I am pretty convinced it was, for a brief period. Maybe not as extreme as the aerial views made it seem which I always thought, but enough to notice from the ground level photos people posted. But as others have also pointed out, if indeed it was, it wasn't going to be left like that.

I did hear some rumours re a convention centre on the collar site a while ago - wonder if that would be incorporated into the East Stand and another hotel etc….

not sure we can do the raised-roof-leave-the-cablenet-in-place thing on the E or W stands (as has been done with the N and S stands) which means both E & W stand roofs would have to go at the same time. Suspect that's 'a complicated job' ;-)

They built two new towers at the North Stand to support the roof and transferred the load, they would probably have to do the same with East or West otherwise it would be supporting columns from underneath OR a new higher cablenet?

They would need at least three towers each side, maybe four. Got to be double the cost of the NS you would think. I have wondered if the strange way the hotel juts out might hint at extending down the east stand in some way.

Yes I was thinking the same. Could even build onto the side of the hotel and wrap it around the expanded East Stand for either more hotel space or for leisure/retail purposes.
