North Stand Construction Discussion

Hi Everyone,

I've been covering the Etihad Expansion of the North Stand since it started, getting to the ground when I can with weather permitting and after work hours. Was there today and ran out of battery trying to cover the new crane that will lift the next piece of the stand. My video is here hopefully my videos along with CP Overview will serve the fans well in seeing the transformation of the North stand, the hotel, offices and fan plaza. It's an exciting project and I enjoy showing it to you. We are all still learning. I have just got past 2million views on my channel which is great and always take stills were I can at the end of the video for fans to look back at for reference. Hope you watch the videos and I will take creative criticism and hopefully show you good content on what is an exciting upgrade to the stadium. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Cheers SS Skies

Like CP’s your videos provide a valuable insight into the progress so, please continue as often as is feasible Very much appreciated by all I think it’s fair to say. Thank you both
Just one point the west leg of the extension is more than the office block importantly it will house the new City store and museum I think these will take up 4 floors in total although, I haven’t checked for awhile

I will be there from 6.30am and can hang around until 3.30pm ish, so hopefully will get this, 2 drones, 6 batteries!
Back up plan if is raining is to film it from the ground so have 2 cameras for that!
SSskies is usually working in the day so he might get the later on footage

That's some incredible dedication. Jrb's going to to be in trouble if nobody shows up!

Love these things but mad expensive. €2.5m for a 10 year old one, god knows the day rate

That did cross my mind. I did wonder how much it does cost to hire for the duration of the set up, lift and dismantle? You can only imagine how much the 5 static cranes are costing to hire.

2 of the 5 cranes are the CTL1600-66 cranes. The same crane that was used when the south stand was expanded.

The CTL1600 crane was used during the South Stand expansion of the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, UK, and was the largest crane of its type in the country. The crane allowed for larger lifts, which sped up construction and reduced the need for working at height.

CTL1600-66

Developed by Select and Terex, the CTL 1600-66 is one of the world's largest luffing jib tower cranes. The CTL1600-66 luffing jib tower crane has a maximum capacity of 66 t and a jib tip capacity of 16 t with a jib length of 30-75 m.

Fitted with Terex Power Plus which boosts operating capacity by an extra 10% when needed.

Includes T-Link (Terex telematics system) which allows for remote retrieval of fleet data through web access, anytime and from any location.
