North Stand Construction Discussion

Guess you can see the sense in focusing all the terracing in the middle block, to get it done sonthe skybar terracing steel can overhang them now without needing to squeeze in the last few rows under it.

It’s almost like they know what they are doing

What if anything is in the PP for car parking to the hotel ??
TBH I can’t remember if there is parking provision or just drop off? I would expect there is parking provision. I’ll have a look at the PA when I’ve got time. Coatigan, Hellocity, or another forum member might know without looking through the PA.

From what I remember, nothing. The minimum required Acc spaces, cycle spaces and thats it it joins on exiting parking on Alan Turner way. There is a 100+ page transport assessment that effectively justifies this, all the different public transport routes available, and this is not uncommon in urban settings.

Remember that there was an approval in place from 2014 as well as part of the south stand, and the infrastructure is largely there for the stand, which included a future north stand capacity and this is not an increase on that.

I'd have to look at it again for any more detail than that though, and it was some time ago so might need a memory refresh.

Edit, just had a quick look at the TA.
'No additional parking will be provided for the hotel or workspace use and those staff and visitors will be required to use existing on site parking. Around 150 spaces will be allocated for users of the hotel'.

I guess their logic is that the most of the week on non-match days there is ample parking on site, and on match days many will come by public transport anyway.

Just been past. That reverse upper middle section which has been added to the frame is huge. Images don’t do the scale justice at times.

Was thinking about you saying this.

So for a sense of scale in a more relatable context, here is the skybar piece at it's right height and size, on Deansgate. On its own between the two towers, and as part of the whole.

I did remember the new roal that leads from Alan Turing Way to the drop of point outside the hotel. But I didn’t remember additional parking being created specifically for the hotel, and close to it. I’m assuming City don’t want to eat into the Collar site I’ll dig out the plan for the road layout in front of the hotel from the PA at some point.

Thanks for the clarification.

That’s good. :-) Very clever.

Would you mind if I reposted it on the SSC-MCR, North Stand Expansion thread, with credit?

Fire away, no need to bother with mentions or credit etc.

You and disco seem to be the only ones keeping that page alive lately.

I always give credit. :-)

There are few other posters contributing every now and again. The thread does get lots of views from City fans (and from United fans) ;-), so it’s worth updating.

Those huge rollers have been condemned, so people in the Gods will need binoculars
On a serious note, as it seems the rake will be the same as the existing NS2 (shallow) and it has 1500 more seats than SS3 (much steeper rake) then will the back seats be further away than the back of SS3?
