North Stand Construction Discussion

Hotel occupancy in Manchester is 68.5% (from google) and as Hotel Football and Renaissance Hotel show they aren't all profitable. It seems a challenging number to reach based on 150 shows and 25 games a year.
It all depends on costs and prices charged.

Hotel room prices continue to rise in Manchester. Ten years ago I could get a hotel on match day for £50-£60 a night. It would be £35 in Ibis Budget at New Islington. Now it is more likely to be over £100 .

OK part of that increase is down to the hotels becoming more savvy on matchday pricing, but prices are definately rising.

If you factor in more Music , Football , Christmas markets , Food / Drink festivals & other events . Burnham / Manchester council want more hotels as they believe it's currently near capacity & they expect significant growth in near future

The 68.5% figure is January, the slowest month of the year is hospitality.

People underestimate the F&B elements and how much they generate.

The yearly profitability of the hotel is kinda probably immaterial, to City. In the sense that their income likely comes from effectively renting it out to Radisson for a set number of years and a set rate, rather than how much the hotel fills up one month to the next. That will be based on predictions and modelling, the hotel may exceed or dip below that but shouldn't affect the club one way or the other over a long period. Until it gets to renegotiating or rebranding.

In general though, rather than knowing what the specifics are here.

It looked like the furthest east truss was in place when I went past this morning. Furthest as in it was placed on the very end yellow support beam (I know there will be different shape ones on top of the outer wall).

Could have just be the perspective I was viewing from though.

Good point but I suppose you could also factor in that some people will likely stay more than one night for their visit to the city. Also in the case of matches, and I suppose concerts too, there might be a two day effect as well (some staying over the night before the game, whilst others might stay the night after the game). All adds up and gets you closer to being busy over the 200 day mark.

62k is the ideal size for us to grow with for the foreseeable future.

It'll be a long time before any further major expansion is considered and they'll probably look at doing relatively minor alterations before that - such as bringing the additional front 3 rows back or adding retractable seats over the service tunnel.

I don’t believe it will ever happen , sadly I think 62,000 will always be enough for us ;-)
If footballs growth continues along with our success the demand will continue to grow, that's not to say they will increase the capacity.
There are now hundreds of thousands of City fans around the world but I think our owners next move is into the visual reality market.
People have been saying for years that the bubble is going to burst, until someone comes up with a more engaging sport I don’t see it, however the rulers of the game are trying their best to fuck it all up.

I've thought this since we moved into the stadium.

Whilst the need for a service tunnel is obvious, on a match day it looks like an awkward gap in the crowd that could be easily filled with spectators. Although I'm no structural engineer so it might not be so easy in practice.

A hotel also does not need to hit 100% occupancy to be profitable. Not over the year. There are peaks and troughs, and they take that into account in their projections and financial modelling.

See you back here in 10 years mate;).

I agree fwiw, just fancied a bit of light-headedness.

I am aware of that. The Raddison Edwardian is a 5 star hotel in the Free Trade Hall. It's post-Covid profits were £737k. So if City have some arrangement with Raddison to operate the hotel, I don't think it will be as lucrative a some people think.

They would all need seat belts in case it had to be lifted in a hurry for an emergency.

The Radissons in MCC charge on average £134 per night, £111 on average if empty rooms are counted, £22.3m turnover for 553 rooms but only £275k profit last accounts. It all depends what city charge, and could be £500 on match days, £250 for event days, £100 other times, turnover £26m with non-event voids.
