North Stand Construction Discussion

Yep. This is correct. The pitch is a hybrid pitch. The artificial fibres are already sewn into the pitch.

As soon as the boards are removed, the grass will be stripped from the pitch leaving only the fibres remaining. There may need to be some work done by the company who stitch these fibres to ensure they haven't been flattened due to the length of time the boards have been down. Once the soil has been levelled and the grounds team are happy, the pitch will be re-seeded and left to naturally(and artificially with the mobile lights) grow for around 6 weeks before it is ready. At this time of year, it'd be expected that the grounds team would be able to do their 1st cut within 2 weeks of seeding.

Other clubs have used the turfing method with these artificial fibres. It works perfectly fine if time is short. Liverpool used it the season before last when the bulk of the roof work was done on their new stand. The pitch would still be perfect but it is highly unlikely the club will need to do this because the window of time they have is more than big enough for the renovation work that is required on the pitch.
I know a bit but it's more I've got a good friend who is in the trade who I ask a lot of questions of.....

Looking at that pic. Are the two support cables that go through the seats still the same on the stadium now?
Not the two main supports, the ones coming from the corner of the cable net.
Cheers

Yes. That’s why they’ve never redeveloped the corners since the corner cables would cut right through it.

They made little holes for them when they did the South Stand corner… “remould”.

IMG_2505.pngHave only noticed that the sections that were under the old roof are not concrete ! Looks like metal plating ? Presumably all that will come up and be replaced with concrete or pre made terraced sections ?

Yep they had to build support below the terracing to support the old roof Now will be removed as you said

Just an observation.

I’m not complaining because I love the new expanded North stand, the larger 2nd tier, and the curved shape of the new roof.

Does anybody else think the roof looks quite puny from above compared to the rest of the roof around the Etihad?

Whereas from below the roof and stand look much bigger.

You’ll be able to walk between the new stand and the hotel and shop/museum/office block so won’t need the circumventing route that we’re all doing currently. I’d expect the barriers might still be there (or at least some restrictions) when the stand opens though and not go until the two claws are finished later in the year.
Thanks, yeah I've seen the gaps on the videos the guys are kindly posting. Once you take into account all the bodies in the new fan zone drinking and eating and fans queing to get into the new North Stand, I imagine it will be pretty crowded in there with half and hour to kick off. I'm sure they must have a plan for it and have considered the footfall. (gulp)
