The reason the club put the rail seating down the sides is so fans in the middle can still see. If the rail seats were in the centre, people standing would block the view from the sides—especially the far corner.With regards to the poor sight lines. That is literally the worst possible place to put the safe standing
I think they should’ve just added more rows of rail seating all the way across, instead of the weird “n” shape they’ve gone with. The cynical part of me thinks it’s more about money—seated tickets in the middle will cost more.
Sightlines to the pitch should be totally fine though. The architects will have made sure of that. You might not see the rest of the stadium, but the view of the pitch will be clear.
