North Stand Construction Discussion

Which is why we need to expand the sides so this end of the stadium doesn’t appear like a stuck-on carbuncle. 80,000, two huge side stands with state-of-the-art facilities, the best team in England, sensible ticket prices etc. Then and only then will this new expansion feel like what it actually is - a top class hotel and world-leading fanzone.

Let’s see how many that catches! :-) Up the Blues!
That must be the ultimate vision but it’s a 20-30 year project. Bums on seats in the expanded stadium and overall demand will influence any future expansion plans

When the roof over the fan zone and the 3 video screens are completed that will have a big impact on how the stand looks from the outside and from above. At the moment the fan zone is nothing more than a construction site and an area full of building materials, etc.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the landscaping will be like, plants, bushes, trees, street furniture. Hopefully Joe Mercer Way being improved as well? That will really have a massive(arf!) impact on how the hotel and North stand finally look in the wider setting of the redevelopment of the North stand and it’s surrounding area.

The expnded Etihad with and without the hotel.

Now the North stand roof is looking a more solid, the Etihad is looking more uniformed.(minus the hotel)

The new North stand roof looks flatter and lower than the South stand roof does, which will improve the noise and the atmosphere inside the Etihad.

Regardless of extending the sides, any substantial extension is unlikely, the hotel is going to be top class the rest of the stadium is irrelevant to it, although the conference facilities housed within the stand will enable the hotel to attain a higher star rating.

The fan zone will be pretty unique in the PL and again extending the sides again is irreverent to it.

Extending the North Stand has improved the inside of the stadium making it more balanced. Externally, IMHO, they have done a good job in adding the hotel, commercial building and fan zone and again extending the side wont make any difference to the look, aside from improving the look of the corners, which are always a difficult feature of any stadium. When it is finished I think it will be amazing given the new facilities on match day and non match day

The north stand and south stand roofs aren’t too dissimilar in terms of height.

I think the reason the north stand roof looks ‘flatter’ is because it doesn’t include the corner roof sections to round it off like at the south stand end.

The landscaping looks good hopefully they continue the theme around the stadium and Joe Mercer Way

It’s in the eye.

The South stand roof looks like it’s going slightly higher towards the back from the front, whilst the North stand roofs look flat from the front to the back. Either way, the new North swill definitely help and improve the atmosphere inside the Etihad.

It’s a good representation of the plan so I don’t see why not would have to be early spring for the Cherry trees to be in blossom
I remember how the trees we had when we first went to the stadium gradually got culled over the intervening years.

I just can not see it ever looking as good as that image.
