North Stand Construction Discussion

Still not convinced it is, but If they built the screen in-front of the scaffold, it would be in the same position as the other corner.
It was like that for the other corner I think , scaffolding up to top and then the brackets for screen was placed on the grey beams and then screen on that I think and when the scaffolding gone you could see the full screen
So still hoping for a screen

The control room that's to the west side is moving there and a new large hospitality box is going where the control room was. I assume the scaffolding is the start of that.

Someone also posted about the touchline at Leicester being blue. Brighton also has it as well, looks better than the green at the Etihad

The scaffolding for the south west corner was far more comprehensive there was also some of the wall removed from the start would make any sense to not carry on from SW corner? Also seats were removed whereas none here

That shade matches their kits. I wouldn’t want dark blue for that reason, plus I don’t actually like it anyway as it’s just a gimmick and light blue would look awful after a bit.

I think it will look much better when you can see the join of the second tier and of course with bodies in it!

The angle of this photograph provides a good perspective of how the steelwork, in particular the diagonals running down from the back of the stand to the roof supports, would impinge on any structure they could potentially build in that corner.

You could imagine a new TV studio or possibly hospitality boxes being fitted in between those diagonals, but anything spanning the whole corner wouldn’t really work. So if they can’t build anything, perhaps they will just stick another screen there.

Off topic.

An interesting read.

It sort of ties in with the difficulty of expanding the Colin Bell stand and East stand, which has been discussed at length on the thread.

I think City would have to do the same as they did with the North Stand and build support structures to transfer the weight of the old roof first then assemble the new roof above it. I just don’t think it’s financially worth it.

This is an interesting snippet though:
Any increase in capacity to Emirates Stadium will likely require Arsenal to foot the bill for increasing capacity for local transport links. Constructing the stadium initially saw the club provide funds to improve Highbury & Islington and Finsbury Park stations, but both still have significant queues of fans after full time. Further expansion could see money demanded by Islington Council and Transport for London for increasing capacities at Holloway Road underground station and Drayton Park railway station, which are currently shut on match days. Arsenal station on the Piccadilly line is another main access point for fans going to the Emirates, but it sits within a tightly populated area that would make increasing its capacity much more difficult.

It seems at odds with what our Traffordian neighbours assume with their expansion.

Would you have preferred a 3 tiered North stand expansion, similar to the 3 tiered South stand, to the current 2 tiered North stand expansion, without the attached fan zone and Hotel? In essence, keeping the Etihad Stadium more symmetrical externally and internally.

Creating the Etihad Model

This model was commissioned in March 2016 and completed in early February 2018. It took an estimated 2000 man hours to research and build during this period. The client and I had met previously and over the course of this commission become good friends.
