North Stand Construction Discussion

Is it me but looking from my seat in 316 last night but are there now seats up in the roof space of the new stand? I swear to God it looks like it.
Do you mean this bank of seats? I think that's what City are calling the Sky Bar.

I snipped this image from a photo that mcfc lads posted on their social media accounts. You can also see more if you look for SS Skies recent drone videos on Youtube.

Yeah that’s it. Wouldn’t catch me up there for all the tea in China!!

We’re discussing it.

The only person getting worked up is you, like you always do, because you don’t like people’s opinions being different to you blinkered City opinions.

It’s a valid North stand discussion in light of the original plans for City Hall in the PA.

I’d you can’t bring yourself to discuss it without reverting to type, having a go at people again who are discussing it, don’t bother.
Have you seen the video of Medlock Square.? If so can you tell your mate you can eat there as numerous times people are shown eating, he just doesn't get it .

A bit of Manc bluntness here but this song sprung to mind and perhaps should be on the playlist:

This is the way, step inside
This is the way, step inside

You'll see the horrors of a faraway place
Meet the architects of law face to face

The architects have fucking surpassed themselves here; how much space there was in City Square and how cramped this Medlock Square looks. In fact doubling down, Swales' new Platt Lane Stand springs to mind.

Off topic, but compare to the remodeled City Hall.

Underneath the Spurs home end they have the Goal Line Bar.

Our 65 metre Goal Line Bar runs the entire length of the goal line - this bar is the longest in the UK.

@jrb is right, what he is saying. City Hall was meant for 1800 people, most of them coming off a 3000 capacity Metlock Square

I would have stuck with the above idea of 1800 people, as it makes sense to have all the vocal fans in one area, then moving on to the North Stand

If City Hall were to be done, the Sky Bar area would have been the best area to do something like this.

As someone noted earlier, it would have been interesting to see the designs for the bigger City Hall

Regarding Metlock Square, the Metlock Hotel, they have both been built with the COOP live in mind, which is why they are not plastering City everywhere, as they will be trying to sell it as all year round destination.

Would not be surprised if the club shops had LED screens in the window, so that at the push of a button, they can change them to whatever event they are holding

Manchester City should have copied what Spurs have done because it works with the South Stand

It’s much bigger than you’re perceiving it to be.

Ok, so that space is for F and B users and for food units and bars? Why on earth arent' they on the plan? I would have thought the space for bars and the backroom spaces for beer etc would be on the plan as they will take up quite a bit of space.

They are what is called 'shell only' plans. At the time the planning approval was granted, maybe even at this point now, the actual tenant or their preferred layout wouldn't have been known. There are 3 units there to let out that would offer food and drinks. The drawings only need to show the size and the toilet and escape privision to serve that size. The rest is done by the tenant when they agree a lease, either by their own team or subsequently this one. This is completely typical fwiw. But the units are there, and can serve a good 1200-1500 people amongst all 3 depending on how they set up.

Enlighten me then ?

I have been pretty consistent on this space for nearly a couple years now, and my opinion hasn't changed.

The question was why are blues upset by the new announcement, and that is my take on why. Couldn't care less whether it's tweed or blue flags myself, but the shift is evident, and for a reason (which I even note on my response to jrb). I then go in to say it can ultimately be what the crowds make of it.

I think you may have unintentionally put words in my mouth, I don't mind, but pointing that out to you.

He is however right that only one of the 3 units is actually onto Medlock square. It IS the biggest one and that also doesn't mean I agree there isn't enough provision or wider choice, but his point isn't obtuse.

“Wagamama” is the perfect description for what we fear.

But it’s surely just a case of the space being very different on match days and non-match days.

The club want it to be Wagamama for the 300+ non-match days each year and I can completely understand why.

On a match day it will turn into a very different space dictated by the volume and type of people there - whether the club want it to or not.

Let me start by saying, this is not a moan, before I get accused of moaning again. It’s an observation.

City Hall.

In the PA, I thought, like many other people, City Hall was going to be one huge bar area with a capacity of 1800 for all City fans to mix and to enjoy pre and post match, similar to the much smaller bar at the back of SSL1, which has been a huge success, and is always packed with City fans of all ages enjoying a chant, drinks, and a sing song.

From the PA.

Somewhere down the line City decided to do away with that 1800 capacity City Hall open to all City fans, and instead they decided to divide City Hall up and create another hospitality area within City Hall, called…… City Hall.(hospitality)

CITY HALL

City Hall has been created as a lively social space for fans who enjoy an energetic matchday atmosphere.

The space will feature large screens and a live DJ, while on non-matchdays, City Hall will act as a flexible hub for events.

Fans in City Hall will enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, with gourmet street food available for purchase.

Padded seats are located at the back of Level 0 in the North Stand.

Some people might say so what, it’s just another hospitality bar for City fans. Fair enough.

The point being, from ‘my perspective’, looking at the PA, the original City Hall was going to cater for all City fans coming into it from the City fan zone. It would be a ‘single hall’ for everyone on a match day to meet, chant, drink, sing songs, etc. It would be our home end bar, serving all City fans, a hall that’s now been made smaller to fit in a 500 capacity(?) table and seats City Hall hospitality area.

I get it, some people on here won’t be arsed. It’s more match day revenue for the club. Even though the original 1800 capacity City Hall would have generated a huge match day revenue in itself. Again, hospitality revenue over GA fan revenue.

If I’m wrong in my thinking about City Hall as it is now, fair enough, I’ll accept the correct explanation.

Fire away.

This is about City Hall, not City (Medlock) Square, to be clear.

I hate to agree with you, but unfortunately that is now evident. And having argued it previously or rather refused to accept it/held onto hope, right up until the last announcement, me admitting that is probably as damning as anything.

And not in the slightest because I have any issue with hospitality offerings btw, but because it is such a key part of it all in such a crucial place that so much is based around. And its potential is, as it looks, a huge missed opportunity.
