North Stand Construction Discussion

“Wagamama” is the perfect description for what we fear.

But it’s surely just a case of the space being very different on match days and non-match days.

The club want it to be Wagamama for the 300+ non-match days each year and I can completely understand why.

On a match day it will turn into a very different space dictated by the volume and type of people there - whether the club want it to or not.

100%. I have said this consistently all along however. Nothing has really changed, other than the tone of the images, as pointed out earlier today.

What I will add, is that the unit sizes will not be accidental nor speculative.

I have been pretty consistent on this space for nearly a couple years now, and my opinion hasn't changed.

The question was why are blues upset by the new announcement, and that is my take on why. Couldn't care less whether it's tweed or blue flags myself, but the shift is evident, and for a reason (which I even note on my response to jrb). I then go in to say it can ultimately be what the crowds make of it.

I think you may have unintentionally put words in my mouth, I don't mind, but pointing that out to you.
Fair enough

exactly - they even compare it the size of the boxpark in the planning app

In size. But in content they are quite different, boxpark is lots of small individual and interchanging units (over 20 vendors). This has 1 fixed large unit onto the covered square, and 2 smaller units facing away from the square, but in close proximity. Not to say they can't be subdivided further down the line, nor that 'pop-up' vendors etc can't be introduced within the square itself, the size that it is.

The architects have fucking surpassed themselves here; how much space there was in City Square and how cramped this Medlock Square looks. In fact doubling down, Swales' new Platt Lane Stand springs to mind
City Sq was primary an open area with portacabin, food and beverage outlets with a few seating areas covered with small canopies, the rest was an open area with a stage
Medlock Sq is a covered area for 3000 people with outlets, one being a large City store and possibly other retail outlets in the Commercial Building. On the hotel side are 3 F&B outlets with seats and tables at the stand end is a raised stage and either side a F&B outlet I dont understand the criticism of the architects they have design what will probably be the best fan zone in the PL which will also have multiple uses outside the >28 occasions when football is being played, this will provide additional revenue for the club along with the hotel, museum VT experience and the leased office space I envisage that a sell out gig at the arena could be streamed into the square, its going to be a superb facility for Manchester

Credit Super Stadiums or whoever took the picture?

Whether you like the look or not of the new North stand, the covered Fan zone, the 2 claws, and the hotel externally, it is an amazing transformation from the old North stand and City Square.
